A closer look at the interior;



^ Just to prove it's a one-off, the interior wood is actually fossilized material rescued from ancient New Zealand swampland. It's color is shifting from red to brown according to how the light strikes it.



^ It even comes with its own carbon-14 dating certificate, saying it's more than 48,000 years old wood.



^ Metal highlights in black chrome set a technical counterpoint to the extensive application of natural materials.

Mixed feelings about the exterior design. Neither does it have the Italian flair nor the Teutonic solidity. It is almost as if the boys from Munich took a Pininfarina design and gave it a thorough work-over. Might take some getting used to.

This car look really plush, fossilized wood won't be part of series production. A black piano wood dash trim with Cinnamon Brown leather seats should look the part. This being the age of downsizing, maybe there will be a 820d with 15kmpl somewhere down the line.
