The guys over at Cartoq have posted a rendering of the 2015 Hyundai compact SUV.

The compact SUV that Hyundai is building will be based on a new platform that will also play host to a 6 seat MPV. The MPV will also be eventually launched in the Indian car market. The latest spyshots of the Hyundai compact SUV, which has been spotted testing in China, indicate rear air conditioning vents, and three headrests and three seat belts on the rear seat. Therefore, the Hyundai Compact SUV is likely to be positioned as a five seater. A monocoque body and front wheel drive layout will be standard. The 2015 Hyundai compact SUV will take on the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster.

Reports floating on the interweb suggest that the Hyundai Compact SUV could feature a 2,570 mm wheelbase and carry the iX25 nameplate. The SUV is likely to be positioned below that the Tuscon/iX35. Reportedly, the SUV will make its debut in China, at the upcoming 2014 Beijing Motor Show in April.

Its a rendering by Cartoq, so, Hyundai hasn't taken any cues from the Swift.

Hyundai displayed the ‘Curb’ concept car in 2011 at the Detroit Auto Show and to say the least the concept looked awe-inspiring. The Korean company is now testing a production ready model based on the concept car and a heavily camouflaged test mule has now been spotted undergoing trials in China.

The vehicle could be unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show, which will happen in April this year. The Chinese car market might get the car this year, but expect it to be made available in India a tad later. But the possibility of the vehicle making it this year to our shores cannot be ruled out.
Although, the exteriors are heavily camouflaged, we can expect the vehicle to wear the tried and tested Fluidic design. The interior pictures reveal only the AC vent for the rear passengers and the space for the passengers at the back.

Hyundai will be working to duck the vehicle under four-metres to avail the excise concessions. The crossover will also benefit from a new range of engines developed by the Korean car maker. A 1.0-litre engine with turbocharging and direct injection could be in the offing with the 1.4-litre CRDi diesel mill instead of the powerful 1.6-litre, as that might spoil the chances of excise qualifications.

Australia's GoAuto.com website reports that the Hyundai Compact SUV ix25 (codenamed "IB" and based on the i20 platform) might be revealed during the Beijing Auto Show in April 2014, which is much before the all-new 2014 i20, which is due to be showcased by end-September 2014 at the Paris Motor Show.

From the D/E segments down to the B segment, the ageing i20 hatchback’s successor will at last surface, in time for the Paris Motor Show in late September.

Besides offering much improved interior space, refinement and – presumably – dynamics, the new IB-series i20 might be sourced out of Turkey rather than India for Australia. The difference is the former serves the European market with more sophisticated features.

More intriguingly, the next-gen i20 is also poised to spawn a sub-compact SUV to take on the Holden Trax, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Juke, Renault Captur, Suzuki S-Cross and Peugeot 2008.

Previewed by the HCD-12 Curb concept car two years ago, expect to see an ix25 badge when the production version debuts in the very near future – possibly sooner than the next i20.

Rumours are rife that an April unveiling at the Beijing motor show is on the cards, meaning that it could even see the light of day in Australia by the end of this year.

The 'CUV' in news again. Seems in India to rival the Duster and the S Cross nd XUV 5OO( If Suzuki decides an Indian Launch). Launch will be at the Beijing Auto show.







An American and European Versions possible.

The ix25 is built on the same platform as the new i20, also scheduled to be launched this year. It will ride on a substantial 2,570mm wheelbase and its engines will also be borrowed from the i20.

For America a 1.6 is speculated as standard, like in the Accent (US).

Over in Europe, a more complete lineup will be offered, probably including a 1.2 for the base model, a 1.4-liter CRDi diesel and maybe a three-cylinder turbocharged unit as well, the long anticipated Kappa 1.0 T-GDi with 120 hp. Indian variants would be in the same lines as the EU version.

Looks like a Swift with a confused C pillar! Rear door screams compact sedan (See DZire rear door and C pillar) rather than an SUV. However, rear looks nice and going by the new SantaFE, Hyundai sure can extend fluidic front end styling to its SUVs.

As per the Chinese auto website - Auto Zeitung,

The sporty crossover is characterized by wide wheel arches and a distinctive grille following the style of its elder brothers brand Santa Fe and the ix35. Tipped to measure under 4.25 m long, the ix25 would have a 1.1L three-cylinder engine with 75 hp in the base variant, while a 1.6L diesel engine outputting 75 PS and 90 PS will be strapped to the higher variants.

auto.sohu.com has also spied Kia’s version of the Hyundai ix25, claimed that 4WD would be offered at the launch. The test mules of the ix25 had a torsion beam rear suspension, while the Kia had a more expensive multi-link suspension. Other fetures include - projector headlamps, LED daytime running lamps & rear disc brake are in the equipment package of the top-end Kia model, which could also be offered on Hyundai's.

Hyundai's small SUV would get the more powerful engines as compared to Kia's, & the features list would also be longer.

The ix25 will share its platform with the 2015, next-gen Hyundai i20 hatchback and a future MPV. 1.4 liter and 1.6 liter turbo diesel engines are likely to be offered on the iX25, which is likely to measure about 4.25 meters in length. A 2,570 mm wheelbase, 5 seats in a 2+3 layout and rear AC vents are the details which have been revealed.

Hope they bring in full length and avoid chopping to compete with Ecosport. They should work on taking on Duster. Really want to upgrade to a compact SUV but certainly not based on a small hatch.
