Bugatti Chiron - successor to the Veyron

Ofcourse they are going after the record! This should clear it a little. Adding a few more details to show how quick the car is in different modes and the acceleration figures.

Then there's the top speed, which Bugatti has limited to 261mph - a token 3mph more than the Veyron Super Sport. The specially-developed, wider Michelins can take more, Bugatti says, and will be used for a Chiron's record-setting attempt, which is expected to surpass 270mph, but the limiter is a "safety measure for road-travel".
So they will take the much debated and coveted "world record".
The world record in question is a 267.8 mph (431.072 km/h) mark that Pierre Henri Raphanel set in the 1,183-hp Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport in July 2010. But all customer cars were speed-limited to 258mph. So Hennessey cried foul. Then Guiness stripped the Veyron of its record. Then Bugatti talked to Guiness. Then the record was restowed. So it is all a bit confusing, but the Chiron will most certainly take the torch from the Veyron and keep moving ahead. Till Hennessey cries foul again. Or Koenigsegg. Or SSC.

It will accelerate from 0-62mph in less than 2.5 seconds, 0-124mph in less than 6.5 and 0-186mph in under 13.6. Take a moment to let that last one sink in. That's 2.9 seconds faster than a P1 and a second quicker than the Veyron Super Sport. But THREE seconds SLOWER than the Koenigsegg Regera, whose numbers read as follows: 0-62mph takes 2.8 seconds, 0-124mph takes just 6.6secs, and 0-186mph takes 10.9secs.

'Auto' is your default setting, shifting responsibility to the Chiron's enormous brain to decide on the best parameters. 'Lift' is designed for speedbumps or loading onto a trailer and only available below 50kmh. Push it beyond 112mph and 'Autobahn' mode activates automatically, softening up the dampers for more comfortable and stable high-speed cruising. Feeling brave? 'Handling' mode turns everything up to eleven and is primarily designed for track work. All the above are accessed via a rotary control on the steering wheel, and come with a top speed limited to a mere 236mph.
If you happen to have a salt flat to play with then 'Top Speed' mode, like the Veyron, requires a second key to initiate. Do so and the car hunkers down, the four-stage rear spoiler flicks into its "slightly extended" position and you're free to run up to the 261mph limiter.
Oh, and at a constant top speed the Veyron could drain its 100-litre fuel tank in 12 minutes, the Chiron can do it in 9.

180 of the 500 £1.9 million Chirons are already sold with one customer buying SIX!

Wonder who that customer is. With the slump in the oil markets I doubt its anyone from Middle-east or Russia, I could be wrong though!

Mind blowing stats.

To me, car does not look as good as its predecessor (Veyron), but looks are always subjective.

Just wondering why Bugatti keeps production of such vehicles limited to few units (500). Any ideas?

I would hate to see gold plated Chirons.

Love the black and gold combo. Finally a Bugatti that appeals to the eye!

Can anyone please post a link to high-res images?

Thanks.

Re: Bugatti Chiron - successor to the Veyron

I think the headlamps look sweet. That coupled with the quintessential Bugatti looks in black make it look (as one member pointed out) like Darth Vader. But then again that is subjective and I suppose some people could call my favorite car the Porsche 911 a glorified Beetle. I just hope Clarkson, Hammond and May review this baby on their new show as soon as they can !

What an engineering marvel this machine is. Truly spectacular...!!!

Just the sheer amount of aerodynamic engineering that needs to be put into the car to overcome the drag forces at such high speeds is truly commendable.

More details on the design can be found here: http://jalopnik.com/the-incredible-t...orl-1761998342

The alloys look fairly similar to the stock alloys of Opel Insignia OPC which I own here.

Ooh la la! Bugatti has finally woken up the Dark Lord and boy ain't he a sight to behold. The one in black looks truly demonic! #Goodtobebad

Re: Bugatti Chiron - successor to the Veyron

Here is Henry Catchpole from Evo with the Chiron. They also got exclusive preview of the interior of the latest Bugatti. And don't miss that gigantic speedometer. At the moment, the tyres are the limiting factor.

Apparently, this one is much more dramatic to drive than the Veyron and should over-steer at will. Can't wait for the drive reports.

Some interesting renderings for a few of the infinitely possible ways to spec your Chiron.

Re: Bugatti Chiron - successor to the Veyron

Car scoops have reported that champion boxer Floyd Mayweather has put down a $3.5 million deposit towards the Bugatti Chiron. Apparently Mayweather has sold one of his 4 Bugatti Veyrons to make space for the Chiron in his garage.

Guess what it did when it went there. Went faster than the fastest LMP1 Car.

Chiron Touches 236 MPH at the famed Mulsanne Straight where the Audi R18 could only touch 213 MPH.

All articles are being politically correct by justifying the higher downforce of the LMP1 cars while we should be celebrating the fact it does it while cossetting the drivers in luxury. God i miss the way Top gear used to describe this "Concorde Moment".

Report link below.

Looks like Chiron has been on a pilgrimage of World Endurance Championship races with a stop at Nurburgring as well, where Car Throttle Magazine got an exclusive first ride.

Now we wait to see what it would do at Ehra-Lessien and when.
