2014 Hyundai Elantra Facelift Link to News Section
The Elantra sedan, also known as the Avante in certain international markets, has been a big global success for South Korean car maker Hyundai. The car, in its fifth generation, was unveiled three years ago, at the 2010 Busan Motor Show. Due for a mid career facelift, the 2014 version of the Elantra will be unveiled in South Korea, on the 24th of August, 2013.
In the run up to the unveil, Hyundai South Korea has teased the car on the interweb. From the teaser images, a few details about the 2014 Hyundai Elantra facelift can be discerned. One such detail is a significant feature addition, in the form of the park assist function. On the looks front, the 2014 Elantra gets a new front bumper, LEDs for the head lamps and tail lamps, revised tail lamp and alloy wheel designs.
The car will also get a new turbo diesel engine. It remains to be seen whether the 1.6 liter turbo diesel motor, also on use in the Verna/Accent, will be the diesel engine powering the 2014 Elantra. In that case, the new diesel engine option for the car will not carry much significance for the Indian car market, where the Elantra is already available with the 1.6 liter turbo diesel motor.
However, if the 2014 Elantra does get a new turbo diesel engine, it would make for an interesting upgrade possibility in the Indian context. The 1.8 liter petrol engine featuring variable valve timing is expected to be retained on the 2014 Elantra while the 6 speed manual and automatic gearboxes are also expected to carry on unchanged. In terms of the interiors, the 2014 Elantra could get a once over along with new features added.
A global unveil at this year's Los Angeles Motor Show is likely for the 2014 Elantra. The car was launched in India during 2012 and ever since, the Elantra has managed to become the top selling D1 sedan in the Indian car market. With the global facelift for the Elantra due later this year, the refreshed model could arrive into India sometime next year.
