Once every often, there surfaces a car that hits the soft spot really, really hard. Months ago, it was the Singer 911, a tasteful amalgamation of the sweet past and contemporary technology, which manifested itself as a car with a very powerful character. From that very perspective, the Equus Bass770 comes very close.

The looks are straight out of the 60's, from a Mustang Fastback to be precise, but the body and frame are all new, with an all aluminium construction. Below the hood sits a 6.2-liter LS9 V8 supercharged engine from the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 developing 640hp at 6,500 rpm and 605 lb-ft (819 Nm) of torque at 3,800 rpm. This Mother-of-God power-plant is mated to a rear-mounted 6-speed dual clutch gearbox.

Top speed is a blistering 200mph, and 0 to 100 takes a scant 3.4 seconds, putting it bang in super-car territory. Brembo carbon ceramics all around take care of the anchors while the magnetic suspension system features adjustable shock absorbers that maximize grip.

However there are a few significant, retro-futuristic details on the outside that suggest it's exclusivity from a regular '67 Fastback, namely the heavily revised front fascia featuring a new horse emblem, projector lamps replete with DRLs and a similarly themed and LED detailed rear. I, particularly, love the way the front windscreen wipers are hidden. Very subtle. The interior gets tastefully and exquisitely detailed out with black leather and brushed metal accents. Phew!

As far as the price goes, it's the usual stratospheric amounts that these tastefully done up, meticulously engineered bits of automotive lust charge these days. Here's what Carscoops had to say:-
