The vezel is a nice perfect compact suv.
Honda will not mind it eating into sales of city etc, they are happy as long as the customer in Honda family.

Wish it would happen! IMO I think it will be priced in the XUV range rather than Duster range.

I wouldn't trust the story one bit. They expect a price of 6.5L to 10L !
Thats a joke in my opinion. The Vezel will not cost anything less than 10L and i expect it to be closer to the 13-15L mark.
Also, Honda India is yet to confirm the launch of this car in India. Im hopeful as this is a fabulous car and we would all lap it up in India without a second thought.
Honda will face serious capacity issues in 2014 with the Amaze doing 9000+ cars, Brio doing 4000+, City doing 4000+ and the Mobilio doing 6000+. Building a Vezel even with the new plant in operation will be a tough ask.

This is mere speculation. The Vezel is ccurrently cost prohibitive for a launch in India. Honda will seek all efforts on managing the costs to an acceptable level. Most realistic lauch date would be in late 2015 or early 2016.

Cheers!

In US the Vezel will be priced under CR-V. Honda says India launch not on cards

Quote:
Honda says bringing the Vezel to the Indian market would work out to be too expensive, and considering the fate of too highly priced models like the last-generation Jazz, the carmaker will be loathe to repeat the same mistake.

Re: Honda reveals Vezel - Urban SUV

Some conflicting reports about the Indian launch of the Vezel/CR-U. Here is another report from Carwale claiming a possible launch in 2014.

Quote:
The Honda Vezel is expected to be a surprise launch by the Japanese automaker in India for 2014. It will be offered here only in the 2WD option and more importantly with the 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that currently powers the Amaze and City sedans. The Vezel or the CR-U as we expect it to be called here will give them access to the all-important compact crossover market that is rapidly expanding not just in India but globally also
Price of the petrol & hybrid variants in Japan:

Honda Vezel 2WD 1.87 million Yen (Rs.11.14 lakhs)
Honda Vezel 4WD 2.08 million Yen (Rs.12.39 lakhs)
Honda Vezel 2WD Hybrid 2.19 million Yen (Rs.13.04 lakhs)
Honda Vezel 4WD Hybrid 2.68 million Yen (Rs.15.96 lakhs)

First ever TV commercial of the Vezel.

Looks delicious in that particular shade of green.

Re: Honda reveals Vezel - Urban SUV

Honda rules out the Vezel for India.

Quote:
A major reason for this decision is the fact that the rupee has lost 20 percent of its strength in just two years, considerably driving up the Vezel’s cost. It would have had to be priced at around Rs 16 lakh in India, making it significantly more expensive than its competition – the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano and Ford EcoSport, which set the benchmark for prices in this segment.

Honda is playing it very very safe.

I think that is one of the reasons, why it is lagging behind.

India is not on their priority list apparently, thats the reason they are citing reasons like localisation. They should have thought about it during the product design, have they had India on their priority/target markets list.

I love Hyundai in this area, they are bold.

Re: Honda reveals Vezel - Urban SUV

Honda not bringing Vezel to India has nothing to do with priority of India as a market. They did consider bringing Vezel to India in 2015 but some of their parts are pretty pricey and not very easy to localise in India. They figured importing them will make current cost estimation to exceed Rs. 15 lakhs (obviously ex-showroom) and Honda knows selling the Vezel as a premium product against the Dusters, EcoSports and Terranos in a price sensitive market will be a herculean task. Also their dashboard design isn't easy and claimed it will be challenging to replicate/produce locally.

Simply why they dropped that plan and are going in for a Brio based SUV (to be lesser in cost compared to Vezel). Read this in Jan '14 AutoCar.

Pretty sad as I was truly expecting the Vezel to come to India at a price of around 16L-17L on-road. Beautiful mini-SUV.

Re: Honda reveals Vezel - Urban SUV

Honda will launch the Vezel in Australia within the next 12 months, as per CarsGuide Australia. They also report that it could drop the Vezel name and come with an all-new name.

Quote:
Honda Australia is looking to introduce the compact Vezel SUV with petrol and diesel drivetrains when it arrives locally in 2015, thereby asserting the brand’s newfound local embrace of turbodiesel technology.

Following the Vezel's unveiling at the Tokyo Motor Show last November, Honda Australia's director, Stephen Collins suggested that the Vezel name may not make it to our shores, with Japan as the only market confirmed for the new moniker.

Collins confirmed this week that a new nameplate will be applied for the Australian market, quashing any notion of a return of the previous sub-CR-V ‘HR-V’ badge from 1999-2001.

Exactly what nameplate that will be is still being decided, but Carsguide understands that Australian models would likely share nomenclature with the UK version.

Here's the first test drive of the Vezel. It's in Chinese, but the video says much!

The HR-V, guess the Vezel's counterpart in North America has this site and it looks a little different from Vezel.
