Folks,

I hope that Maruti Suzuki has considered these 2 factors among others for this new platform. Have the specifications been announced?
  1. Wheelbase:
I feel this Platform should incorporate a better wheelbase by about 4-6 cms, considering that...
    - The Ritz / Estilo at 236 cms of wheelbase manages to provide about just enough legroom (debatable) and boot space - due to being a tallboy
    - The WagonR at 240 cms of wheelbase manages to provide better legroom - again due to being a tallboy
    - The Swift at 243 cms of wheelbase (increased by 4 cms from the old Swift platform) still cannot boast of good legroom and boot space despite having the largest wheelbase among the lot - due to NOT being a tallboy and other factors

  2. Suspensions:
The new platform can improve the suspensions, especially considering that most Maruti hatchbacks today offer only average suspensions on bad roads

Speculated wheel base is 2425 mm and is a tall boy design.

Cheers!

Re: Suzuki unveils A-Wind Concept (aka Celerio), an all-new hatchback in Thailand

A fuel efficient automatic (AMT) Celerio from Maruti next month.

A new small car, with some variants priced below Rs 4 lakh, is on its way next month from Maruti Suzuki India's stable.

Quote:
Industry sources say the Celerio will be a one litre petrol car in two transmissions - manual and automatic. The automatic may become the variant to watch out for since these sources point out that this car will probably deliver mileage of over 20 kmpl.

Maruti's Japanese parent, Suzuki Motor Corp, took about three years to develop the technology which has raised the fuel efficiency of the automatic variant to almost equal that of the manual transmission vehicle. India will be the first market where Suzuki will offer this technology though Celerio will also be available in a pure play manual variant.

I really don't like it in those pictures. The lines look awkward and the car feels very vintage. Maybe its the filter that Motorbeam has used and that green colour.

Also, MSIL have managed to introduce a great new feature! Chrome on lights from the factory! What we really been waiting for in new cars!

Maruti Suzuki Celerio - Important Details
ENGINE - 1.0-lt kNext engine
POWER - 68PS,
TORQUE - 90Nm Torque
WHEELBASE - 2425mm
Choice of Manual & AMT Transmissions
No DIESEL engine
PRICING - 5-6 Lakhs
VARIANTS - 3-4
AMT ( 5 speed) in base variants only

Celerio can't be priced higher than Swift since it is smaller and comes in a smaller engine as well. The AMT doesn't cost much either so the whole logic is flawed in this article.

Celerio interiors revealed!

The cabin of the Maruti Celerio uses beige, black and silver tones that look fresh. Pics are from the top variant ZXI. Spacious at the rear is evident from the rear picture shown.

Quote:
The gear lever is directly lifted from the Maruti A-Star but the arrangement of drive modes is different here. The regular P, R, N, D modes are featured on the right, while the manual mode is situated on the left side with ‘+’ and ‘-’ toggles. The steering wheel is derived from the Maruti Swift but the instrument cluster looks new and attractive. It gets rid of the engine temperature gauge and features a small MID screen on the right corner. The aftermarket Kenwood music system is provided on the ZXi trim.
The Maruti Celerio is likely to be offered with the 1.0-litre K10 petrol engine initially and a new 800cc, 2-cylinder diesel engine by the end of 2014.

Quote:
It will be launched at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo with an expected on-road Mumbai price in the range of Rs. 4.60 – 5.95 lakhs for the petrol variants.

Re: Suzuki unveils A-Wind Concept (aka Celerio), an all-new hatchback in Thailand

Thanks to MotorBeam, snapshot of the interior have surfaced now:

Looks like the leather gear-knob and touch-screen haven't made it to production. And the interiors seem to be of top-of-the-line model (possibly ZXi) as it gets a Kenwood double DIN music player.

EDIT: Just realised even Volkman has put up the same pics!

Keep revvin'

Re: Suzuki unveils A-Wind Concept (aka Celerio), an all-new hatchback in Thailand

This appears to be a Vxi Automatic version going by the absence of airbags. Also the stereo is not an integrated one as usually seen on Zxi versions. Another thing is that the three point belt seen in the concept seems to have given way for a lapbelt. It has fixed rear headrests too unlike the current A Star.

It is mostly a VXi AT. Although there are speculations that lower variants will get AT too, but those are for AMTs and not a conventional AT GB as in the pics.

The A-Star VXi (MT and AT) has integrated stereo and rear adjustable headrests. I am guessing you mean only for the middle passenger. That would have never made it to India. If Maruti was so serious about safety, they would have given airbags even on LXi!

Interiors remind me of the Eon. I liked the meters though.

There seem to be no bottle holders in the front!

EDIT: Oops! That seems to be an AMT!

Re: Suzuki unveils A-Wind Concept (aka Celerio), an all-new hatchback in Thailand

Like others have mentioned this is most likely to be the Vxi AT. The 2 DIN is likely to be a dealer fitment. My guess is that they would have dropped the music system on the Vxi AT to cut costs. Anyhow a pretty good looker from the Maruti stable after a long time. Hope they price it sensibly. Has the potential to become the replacement for the Ritz and even eat into Swift sales if shod with the K12M motor.

Re: Suzuki unveils A-Wind Concept (aka Celerio), an all-new hatchback in Thailand

Thanks Volkman10 for sharing the info.

However this doesn't seem to be the top-end. The missing electronic OVRM controls (though a provision for the same is visible in the pic) and the dummy airbag seems to point to probably a mid-variant.

Btw, I thought AMT was something new from MSIL and path-breaking. From the pictures it seems to be same as an AT, at least the gear lever and associated conventions.. assuming the pics are that of the rumoured AMT.

Doesn't the Celerio's dashboard look like the Verna dashboard?

It looks more like Swift / Dzire / Ertiga's dashboard to me. Not able to relate this to Verna though.
