Ford F150 is one of the most Iconic truck in USA. Ford has taken a big step in redesigning this Truck in all Aluminum. Last year, Ford sold an F-Series every 41 seconds – this tells how important this truck is for the company. The change is Ford’s response to small-business owners’ desire for a more fuel-efficient and nimble truck — and stricter government requirements on fuel economy. And it sprang from a challenge by Ford’s CEO to move beyond the traditional design for a full-size pickup.

Complete story can be read here:

Quote:

Ford makes an estimated $10,000 profit on every F-Series truck it sells, making trucks a $7.6 billion profit center in the U.S. alone last year.

Quote:

CEO Alan Mulally, a former Boeing Co. executive who joined Ford in 2006, encouraged his team to think bigger. After all, it was Mulally who led early development of Boeing’s Dreamliner, which replaced aluminum with even lighter-weight plastics to be more efficient and fly further.’

The biggest part of the story for me is that the Aluminium provider for this next gen F-150 is going to be Novelis, whose CEO happenes to be Ex-Ford Executive Phil Martens.

On further investigating on Novelis: It is currently owned by Hindalco, Aditya Birla Group. (acquisition happened in 07-08 time frame)

F-150 has been the highest selling vehicle on YoY basis and AB group is definitely going to spread its wings in the US of A deeper.

How ironic! I guess the aluminium is there to save weight and improve fuel economy and pollution rating. Then, why don't they reduce the overall size of the truck? I think it can be made a lot compact without affecting any of its usability. :D Its a behemoth which is nearly 6m long, 2m wide and tall, mostly carrying one person and no cargo.

Reducing the overall size of the truck defeats the purpose of having a big truck in the first place. American love their trucks/pick-ups!

The much awaited Ford Raptor Super Crew 2017 has just arrived to the UAE

Very aggressive look and solid build like its predecessors.

The all-new 2017 Ford Raptor has a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine. It also has a drive mode selector controlling where to send the torque, permitting the pickup to steer easily.

Nice pictures. Sad that the Raptor would not be sold in India. The truck will serve as a lifestyle vehicle and an excellent off road truck. Surely will attract some niche buyers.

The 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor comes with a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V-6 engine, equipped with twin turbochargers and direct fuel injection, churning out 450 HP and a peak torque of 510 lb-ft. The old 6.2-liter V-8's power output and torque figures were 411 HP and 434 lb-ft respectively.

Comes with a 10 speed automatic transmission and a new Terrain Management system that offers 10 driving modes.

The new generation Raptor features an all-aluminum body and bed. This combined with the new lighter engine resulted is weight savings of up to 500 lbs, with the added benefit of improved fuel economy. Comes in two variants. The SuperCab comes with a wheel base of 133 inches, whereas the SuperCrew comes with a wheel base of 145 inches.

A comparison of the specifications of the old generation and new generation Raptor taken from www.f150hub.com is given below.
