Definitely looks bigger than the Freelander2.

Hope it's more impressive, and offers better bang for the buck. The current Freelander is too overpriced at 40 - 45 lakhs on the road. All you get for that money is a sedan platform under the skin, 4-cylinder diesel and lesser space than a Honda City.

Take the Land Rover badge away, and you'll wonder why you spent more than a Nissan X-Trail.

The location seems to be definately out of India.
Hope one of such Proto type is roaming in TML's Pune plant(ERC) too for Homologation.

Aria side profile is a lot different at the fender and the D pillar area. IMHO.

Autocar's UK site reports sighting the Freelander replacement during an outdoor cold-weather testing run.

Notice the different set of alloys + all-new tail lamp cluster?

Set to arrive in showrooms within 12 months, the new model will lose the Freelander name and adopt the Discovery badge as part of Land Rover's plans to split its model line-up into three distinct sectors. In addition to the Range Rover and Defender model ranges, there will be an extended Discovery family of 'lesiure' vehicles, of which the Freelander replacement will be one.

The new model will be available in both five and seven-seat guises for the first time. These latest pictures are believed to show the larger, seven-seat model winter testing with elements of its rear body uncovered. In particular, a new rear light cluster design can be seen.

Dubbed the 'baby Discovery', the car will replace the current Freelander, which is Land Rover marque's best-selling model. The Freelander 2 was launched in its current form in 2006 and given its latest mild makeover in 2013. The replacement promises to be a significant step forward from the current Freelander, offering greater wading depth, better interior packaging and much improved boot space.

The new car is based on the same LR-MS platform as the Evoque.

Speculated the car could be named the Land Rover Discovery Sport,and production may start in November or December 2014.

The baby Discovery sits on a stretched version of the Range Rover Evoque’s platform, with which it will likely share its initial range of petrol and diesel powertrains.
