Hi all, If we go by the detailed reports from I.A.B then Images of the upcoming BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe have leaked on the internet, ahead of a reported world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe is the four-door version of the 4 Series coupe. Like the 6 Series Gran Coupe, the 4-er will come with frameless doors and a sloping roofline (as shown in the image). It would however, measure the same in length and width compared to the 4-er coupe. BMW engineers have achieved this by shortening the length of the front and rear doors.

It is expected that the 4 series Coupe will use similar engines as the ones used by the 3 Series. This includes a 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol motor available in 420i and 428i specs and a six-cylinder petrol dubbed 435i. The diesel engines will include a 2.0-liter four-cylinder available in 420d trim and a six-cylinder 3.0-liter diesel available in 435d and 430d trims.

The 4 Series Gran Coupe will be marketed as a sportier alternative to the 3 Series. Media reports estimate the 4-er Gran Coupe to cost about 5,000 pounds (INR 5 lakhs) more than the equivalent 3 Series. BMW should be releasing the details and images of the car shortly.

Hi all, BMW, is very busy and making efforts to provide something for everyone these days. Just look at the massive 3 Series/4 Series range where one can have a sedan, coupe, convertible, wagon, or funky-backed Gran Turismo. And now, with the introduction of the 2015 4 Series Gran Coupe, we can have another sedan..err, hatchback actually. Perhaps, a better one.

Compared to the 3 Series sedan, the 4 Series Gran Coupe is both longer and wider by about half an inch, but is shorter in overall height by an inch and a half. Honestly, it looks a little better than the 3 Series having a longer roof-line, more sculpted rear haunches and a lower stance. Full interior specs for the 4 Series Gran Coupe aren't available right now but one can expect them to be roughly similar to the 3 Series, perhaps with a small decrease in headroom and rear legroom. Trunk space, at 17 cubic feet, matches the 3 Series sedan, and because the 4 Series Gran Coupe actually uses a hatchback design, it should be easier to access.

Power specs are completely carry-over from the rest of the 3/4 Series range. The 428i uses BMW's well-liked 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four with 240 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque, and the 435i is fitted with the company's 3.0-liter turbo-six, good for 300 hp and 300 lb-ft. An eight-speed automatic is the only transmission available in the US with either model and rear-wheel drive is standard. Only the 428i can be had with BMW's x-Drive all-wheel-drive system, and interestingly, the 428i Gran Coupe is actually expected to be more fuel-efficient than its 3 Series sedan counterpart. This Gran Coupe is estimated to return 23/35 miles per gallon city/highway, compared to the 23/33 mpg in the 328i sedan. The 435i Gran Coupe should achieve the same 22/32 mpg ratings as the 335i sedan.

After being driven, the 435i Coupe was actually found to be a lot more engaging than its 3 Series counterpart. All thanks to its lower ride height and re-tuned suspension. The 4 Series Gran Coupe promises similar things as it can be had with an adaptive M suspension and variable sport steering. Obviously, the same Eco Pro, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ drive modes have carried over from the sedan, as well.

Instead of making the M3 based in the 3 series, they should have just kept two models- M4 and M4 GC

Thinking why they built the 4 GC ? In simple words, because they can.

But for a more complex & marketing explanation to it is showcased in this video;

Hi all, For the benefit of all my mates; here is a comparative study between BMW 4-Series Grand Coupe Visually Compared with 4-Series Coupe, 3-Series Sedan and GT.
BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Leaked-bmwscomparo0.jpg
Positive Point: The 4-Series Gran Coupe is prettier than the 3-Series. Frankly the 4 Series Gran Coupe looks more attractive and lower 3-Series GT with more planted-looking coupe front-end and gills behind the front wheels.

Negative Point: It looks too much like the taller GT, even with the squatter stance and its shorter wheelbase.

Another issue with the 4-Series Gran Coupe is that it looks too much like a hatchback and would have needed a noticeably longer boot lid to really get the look going. BMW proved that they know what sleek side profiles look like with the 6-Series Gran Coupe, but here they just settled for the flattened 3 GT look and just moved on to carrying over the interiors with no significant changes.

To sum up it can be labeled as a cross between the 3 GT and 4-Series.
