McLaren 650S: Geneva, March 2014

McLaren is on product offensive with a hotter 12C-based supercar - the 650S, belting 650 ps (~ 641 bhp) on tap, from a twin-turbo V8 engine, which will be unveiled on Geneva next month.

Here the image from the sneak preview:

Two versions will be available, one with a ‘carbon kit’ to further distinguish the car’s looks. The new model is destined to rival the Ferrari 458 Speciale, which has 597bhp on tap from its V8 engine. And, the car is likely to cost around £20,000 more than the £176,000 12C coupé.

Sources say a 12C replacement, which will be heavily influenced by the 650S, will be shown later this year.

Ride height and handling modes are also independent from the drivetrain settings, giving the drivers more settings to choose from. The seven-speed dual clutch transmission changes even quicker than before, while the unique five-spoke lightweight forged wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsas as usual from McLaren.

That centre console looks a bit puny though.

Some numbers from McLaren's FB Page:

Quote:
0.6 seconds faster than the ‪#‎McLarenF1‬ over a standing quarter mile, the ‪#‎McLaren650S‬ has some impressive numbers to back up its dramatic looks. 100km/h (62mph) from rest in 3.0 seconds. 200km/h (124mph) in 8.4 seconds. Quarter mile (400m) takes 10.5 seconds. Top speed is 333 km/h (207 mph).
The Ferrari 458 in comparison:

0-62 mph comes in at 3.4 seconds with a top speed of 202 mph. Quarter mile in 11 seconds and 124mph in 10.8 seconds.

The Aventador:

0-62mph in 2.9 seconds. Top speed of 350kmph, quarter mile in 10.7 seconds and 124mph in 9.4 seconds.

Re: McLaren 650S: Geneva, March 2014

Reports are now coming in that the junior supercar 12C will be axed .
Production of the McLaren 12C was suspended shortly after the 650S was announced – the company insisted that it was temporary, but the car now seems to be dead for good.

McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt said that the demand for the 650S was so great (there is a six-month waiting list already) that the company has decided to cease production of the 12C and dedicate all of its factory’s capacity to the new model.
Quote:
The announcement comes as no surprise – the nearly £30,000 increase in price of the 650S may initially seem a little steep, but so many of the expensive options of the 12C (including the carbon ceramic brakes and full Alcantara interior) have now been made standard that together with the hardware upgrades and increased performance the new car is now arguably a bargain.

The very very customer centric attitude that Mclaren have shown is the free tech upgrade for all 12C owners. They even get an aero package from the 650S along with SW upgrade and rear wing air brake feature.

This is a superb attitude. A customer who has recently bought a 12C recently would not have been very pleased if it was discontinued and replaced with improved 650S.

McLaren MSO 650S Coupe Concept shown in China

The concept features a number of subtle tweaks designed to let owners stand out from the pack. The side blades have grown to wider, full-length satin carbon fibre items that increase aerodynamic efficiency, while the rear gets a more aggressive GT3-inspired diffuser.

The rest of the carbon fibre parts also feature a satin finish, as do the black lightweight alloy wheels. The Agrigan Black paint is unique and features deep ruby red metallic flakes that changes the colour of the paint in direct sunlight.

The interior, on the other hand, is fitted with the optional P1-inspired fixed-back carbon fibre seats that shave 15 kg off the 650S’ 1,330 kg dry weight, upholstered in carbon black leather. Satin carbon fibre trim is found throughout the cabin, contrasted with gloss black switchgear and bezels.

Is it just me or does anyone feel a huge disconnect between the front & the rear of the car?
