Re: Spy Pics: 2016 Audi R8 caught testing

There's a rumour that Audi will sell the new R8 with a twin turbo V6 alongside the V8 and V10 versions.

F-type beware.

I thought the twin turbo V6 was a replacement for the V8.

The 4.0T replaces the current 4.2FSI and will be undercut with a cheaper V6 twin turbo variant which may be coupled with an electric motor. The V10 remains and will now put out 580hp.

Auto Express drives the new R8. The new Audi R8 will be launched in two versions, featuring a 540hp V10 and a top-of-the-line 610hp V10 Plus which is shown here. The V10 unit is a heavily reworked 5.2-litre V10 allowing the V10 Plus to score a 3.2sec for the 0-62mph time, an improvement of 0.3sec compared to its predecessor and a top speed of 205mph. A smaller V8 version will debut later.

Kill me for saying this, but did they really hire DC to re-do the hot looking R8, the front three quaters look almost as ugly as the DC Avanti! And those iconic side blades have just gone berserk!
Why Audi why?!?!?

Exactly my thoughts. Why did even Audi change those lovely side panels. IMO they were the R8's USP. The side panels added a lot of character to the car.

The tail lamps look like they have been picked up from a Jetta or a Passat.

Re: Spy Pics: 2016 Audi R8 caught testing

It looks confused to me, with the new edgy front and rear and the same curvy side profile. I don't like it one bit. I'm not sure what Audi was thinking. Though I'll wait till I see it in the flesh to actually decide.

Maybe it's the hardcore R8 fan inside me speaking, but I for one like the new R8! Something in the lines of the legendary 911, I would say! From a design point of view, every 911 is just an evolution over its predecessor. Maybe Audi is trying to do something similar with the iconic R8.
More importantly I'm relieved that Audi didn't screw up the design big time, like they did with the A7 facelift or the new Q7.

The sideblades should have been a single piece unit. Period! That added a lot of character. This one looks a bit confused.

Interior looks futuristic, yet classy. Virtual cockpit looks nice, but a center screen should've been there, atleast for the co-passenger to fiddle around.

Worthy successor IMO, but there's scope for improvement.

Re: Spy Pics: 2016 Audi R8 caught testing

The whole car doesnt seem to sync. I dont like the front end too much but love the rear. Looks a lot more wider and macho. The interiors look really good as well.

Re: Spy Pics: 2016 Audi R8 caught testing

It is indeed a confused design.

From the waist-line down, it's a sharp and modern looking car. However, the green-house area gives the car a curvy silhouette. It's less R8 and more TT now and that's quite disappointing.

I'm sure it would look good in person, and it should have the street-cred and presence of the old one. That said, it just seems like a half-hearted attempt by Audi.

^ You nailed it

The R8 looks very ordinary from the front specially when the signature LED which had so much character initially are just plain boring now.

But at the end of the day we do know this is a Huracan skin deep in plain clothes. Something like what VW Touareg is a Porsche Cayenne in simple clothes.

Re: Spy Pics: 2016 Audi R8 caught testing

Have they copied Ferrari by putting all the buttons on the steering wheel including turn indicators? That looks like quite a busy steering wheel.
