Re: VW Golf turns 40!

Happened to see this today in my Facebook page.

I had mentioned about the GTI W12 650 concept. The new concept hot hatch by VW is the Golf R 400.

As name suggests it churns out 400 PS power. It uses a modified version of VW 2.0 liter Turbo charged engine which produces a whooping 450 NM torque. 19 inch wheels and lemon yellow accents are other appealing visual changes. It's also got a lower stance (20mm) and reaches 0-100 kmph in 3.9 sec. This quite impressive considering the fact that W12 650 hits the same speed in 3.7 secs.

Re: VW Golf turns 40!

VW will launch new Golf in 2017, the MKVIII - just five years after launching the present model.

The new lower, wider Golf will look very different from the current seventh-generation hatchback with new design features including restyled front and rear lights.

Like the current Golf, the new model will be based on VW Group’s generic MQB architecture that underpins models including the Seat Leon, Skoda Octavia and Audi A3.

Quote:
Volkswagen will also offer new safety options in the Golf, including automatic parking and automatic braking with pedestrian recognition that will also be available in the new midsize Passat which will begin sales later this year
Infotainment features carried over from the larger model will also include a heads-up display and Mirror-Link, which allows drivers to access and use smartphone apps via the car’s touchscreen display.

Volkswagen is working on new greener engines for the Golf and has cut the overall weight of the new hatchback by 50kgs (110 pounds). Additionally, the carmaker may also offer an economical three-cylinder unit currently fitted in the new Polo subcompact mode.
