Strange news from the global automotive industry:

A Chinese company is to produce an iconic British sports car in America's heartland.

China's Nanjing Automobile Group is to build the Britain's fabled once best-selling British MG sports car at Ardmore in the state of Oklahoma, USA.

It will be the first Chinese automotive plant in the United States and create 550+ jobs for the Americans.

The first cars will roll out in six months time (2008).
Five months ago, GM had closed its Oklahoma City assembly plant, unemploying 2,000 workers.

In the 1960s and 70s, the MGA, MGB and MG Midget were cool sports cars to buy.

MG stood for "Morris Garages" nothing to do with the British Morris brand which belonged to British-Leyland Motor Corp.

MG was founded in the 1920s and eventually went bankrupt.
Nanjing, China purchased the bankrupt co. and expects to cash-in on the MG brand.

Ohh..given the British marques recent quality standards, it would really make no difference even if it is made in China. Though its good too see its revival, it would have been better if it was done by some British or other European promoter..

WooHoo !!! Morris is back. :Cheering: MG !!!
