Mercedes Shows Off New E-Class' Customizable Dash At CES

Mercedes-Benz is giving CES visitors their first chance take a closer look at the cabin and features on the brand new E-Class sedan.

The Germans brought along a working dashboard of the executive model sporting a new infotainment system, which according to the automaker, "marks a milestone of the classic control and display concept into the Digital User Experience". It also features the world's first touch control on a multi-function steering wheel, added to the controller touchpad, switches and the Linguatronic voice control.

There are two touch sensitive panels, similar to the surface of a smartphone, which support horizontal and vertical swiping movements to scroll through the menus of the instrument cluster and the central display that measure 12.3-inches each in the range-topping versions, while the entry-level will bring an 8.4-inch display and analog dials, separated by a 7-inch color display cluster.

Speaking of the fully digital instrument cluster with its 1920x720 resolution, Mercedes states that the screen design can be selected individually from three different styles that include Classic, Sport and Progressive.

Wireless smartphone charging is available as well, while devices can connect to the multimedia system via NFC (Near Field Communication) and become a digital key for the car, operating features such as locking, unlocking and starting its engine. The new E-Class is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

New Mercedes E-class to be launched in USA with 2 litre 241bhp engine:

Billed as the “most intelligent luxury sedan”, Mercedes-Benz’s next generation E-Class was fully revealed on Sunday during a press event on the eve of the Detroit Motor Show.

Bigger but lighter than the outgoing E-Class, the 2017 model will go on sale in the USA and Canada this summer offering a single engine option at launch, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline unit with 241 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque for the E300. Additional powertrains will be added to the range during the course of the year.

In Europe, the new E-Class will be available with a wider engine range at launch, including the gasoline-powered E200 with a 184PS (181hp) 2.0-liter turbo four, the diesel-powered E220d with a 195PS (192hp) 2.0L four, the E350d with a 258PS (255hp) 3.0-liter six-cylinder, and the E350e plug-in hybrid with a total system output of 279PS (275hp).

All models available at market launch will be equipped with the firm’s new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Aside from the regular steel-spring suspension, the E-Class will offer two DIRECT CONTROL suspension systems with selective damping (Sport or Comfort) and the AIR BODY CONTROL air suspension.

Built on Benz’s modular MRA platform that also underpins the latest C-Class and S-Class models, the new W213-codenamed E-Class has a 2.6-inch (66mm) longer wheelbase than its predecessor at 115.7 inches (2,939mm), while it’s 1.7 inches (43 mm) longer overall at 193.8 inches (4,922 mm).

As we’ve already seen from previous official and leaked imagery, the styling of Mercedes’ BMW 5-Series and Audi A6 rival, both inside and out, slots neatly between the more sporty C-Class and more plush S-Class.

The US version of the E300 will have a traditional gauge cluster behind the steering wheel combined with a 12.3-inch navigation display screen, though, we expect Mercedes to offer the full-digital instrument panel version as well, if not at launch, later on.

The W213 E-Class will debut a number of tech, comfort and safety features, ranging from touch-sensitive control buttons ('Touch Controls') on the steering wheel and LED ambient lighting with 64 color options, to the Remote Parking Pilot system that allows the vehicle to be moved into and out of garages and parking spaces remotely using a smartphone app. Another highlight is the Car-to-X communication system that enables mobile phone-supported exchange of information with other vehicles further ahead on the road.

The interior looks smashing. The layout, design, color combination specially the tan and black all reek of class and quality. Definitely the segment best till now.

The exterior though a step up from current shape and in sync with the family face looks a little to similar to the smaller C or the bigger S. A long wheelbase E class would easily pass of as a regular S IMO.

Overall this has all the makings of a run away success.

I guess the real customers aren't really bothered looking at the sales numbers though. Lets see how this pans out in the long run.

The new age Mercedes models looks awesome though I am not a fan of the same template applied for S, E and the C.

The outgoing E maybe the last of Mercedes to have a strong identity of its own; 10 years down the lane this maybe touted as a modern classic.

The best part about the new E - they don't have that floating tablet screen.

The W213 Mercedes E-Class (next generation) was unveiled last month at the Detroit Motor Show. Now, a Chinese publication has posted images of a long wheelbase version of the car, which is set to make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April.



The cars spotted are the E300L and E200L variants where 'L' stands for long wheelbase compared to a standard E-Class (2,939 mm). The added wheelbase length (140 mm) will translate into better interior room (especially rear leg room).



This car will be launched in China in the second half of 2016 and Autocar claims that it will be introduced in India in 2017 as well.



The image of the interiors reveals that they are identical to the regular W213 E-Class. More details on the engine options, trim variants, etc. remain a speculation as of now.

I could have wished for a squarer design. I don't like the fact that the S has been put through a copier for the C and the E.

But Hubba Hubba, Hells Bells!!! If they have kept up with the drive dynamics then this is the one I'd buy if I could, especially in V6 avatar. Looks like Mercedes are back with a bang. Now only if they manage to bring their pricing down to sane-for-India levels

What worries me about the New E Class is that it will probably be priced at 55L (on road 60L) given how the C has been priced by Mercedes India
