Re: *Rumour* - Fiat takeover by VW

Even if this becomes a reality, where Volkswagen to take over Fiat Chrysler, there might be regulatory concerns, especially in Latin America where both Fiat and Volkswagen have large market shares.
Both companies currently have a broad array of brands, and it’s not certain what would happen to some if a merger took place.

Also it seems that is far more likely for Volkswagen to bid on specific arms of Fiat Chrysler, such as parts supplier Magneti Marelli or specific brands of FIAT.

As of now both FIAT and VW have denied such merger or acquistion plans.

Re: *Rumour* - Fiat takeover by VW

Fiat Chrysler has denied a magazine report saying it's in merger talks with Volkswagen, while the German carmaker said it had no takeovers on its agenda.

Can we rest this rumour thread for now?

Re: *Rumour* - Fiat takeover by VW

Anyone who remembers how Herr Piech took over Porsche would know that his ambitions of World Domination are pretty strong.

Its not Fiat's loss-making european small-car business he is interested in, its Chrysler. VW has never made it big in the US of A, and Piech took VW to new heights through his early charge into China that resulted in VW taking a huge position and getting most of its volumes from that market.

He needs the US market if his plans to make VW #1 in the world have to be realised. Fiat is an easy target at the moment with a struggling home business held afloat mostly by 2-3 Chrysler brands.

Herr Piech doesn't give up that easily, if you look at his past record - he will wait and watch, because he has the cash.

Dear Fiat fans can relax. Just read an article published today that the takeover/ merger talks between the two companies did not go beyond the first stage of consideration. This certainly brings us to one conclusion that the smoke was not without a fire!

Link to news article.

Re: *Rumour* - Fiat takeover by VW

Ferrari spinoff sets up Fiat Chrysler for another deal?

Even as the merger of Fiat and its U.S. Chrysler unit last year to create Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Marchionne said the industry is still fragmented and ripe for further consolidation. This speculates the possibilty tie up with a suitable 'partner'

Volkswagen Group, Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. all fit criteria that Marchionne outlined last year for a suitable partner, while Mazda Motor Corp. and Suzuki Motor Corp. could be viable Asian merger candidates?

Sergio Marchionne's planned spinoff of Ferrari this year puts the $14 billion automaker into position for another combination that could form a group to vie with global No. 1 Toyota Motor Corp. or help address shortcomings in Asia.

Quote:
While the Agnellis(family) want to keep Ferrari, they would probably be "open to strategic combinations that will reduce, or eliminate, their stake" in Fiat Chrysler
