Looks very classy indeed. But Volvo doesn't let go of its boxy designs.

I am not sure if I like the new grill, but overall exterior looks neat and will not offend anyone. On the other hand interior has taken a giant leap from their current line-up. I have always been a fan of volvo car for the reliability and safety they offer, other European brands seems to score low on reliability and are expensive to maintain.

Know it has become a fad to 'critically' call a new design as inspired or @$^^%-ish, but couldn't help.
The XC90 looks a bit 'inspired' by BMW and Infiniti

But it's a good design and happy that they managed to keep the butt styling alive.

Volvo does appeal to the more conservative buyer. The other issue is that a radical design dates quicker. the previous XC90 aged quite well IMHO. Its intrinsic qualities would be the main selling point but they need to get the punters behind the wheel.

Again, it makes a good alternative to the germans, if they can price it close to an Merc ML then you get a GL for the price of an ML

Front looks definitely better than the outgoing model, but at the same time the DRLs lit up should have been slimmer, these are just too loud.

Rear is much nicer than the front.

But the best is the side profile, very BRUTISH

It looks a lot like the X5 and the Grand Cherokee from many angles. Chinese designers at play?

At least from a safety standpoint Volvo still stands tall and true to its heritage. Volvo claims and has ambitions that by 2020 nobody will be killed or seriously injured in a Volvo!

Volvo XC90 India launch in March 2015


Deliveries will start in August 2015; first 200 units will be offered in full-spec form.

Volvo officials have confirmed that the new XC90 will be launched in India in March 2015, with deliveries to commence from August. The first 200 units for India will be in top-spec guise (available in 2-3 colours), though more variants at a lower price will be offered later on. Pricing will be in Audi Q7 territory, so expect an ex-showroom price tag in the region of Rs 65-70 lakh.
The XC90 for India will come with Volvo’s latest generation 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel in 245bhp and 48kgm form, both figures better than the outgoing XC90’s 2.4-litre, five-cylinder diesel. The new XC90 is also said to be more efficient than the model it replaces, thanks in part to its use of an eight-speed gearbox. India-bound XC90’s will come with an all-wheel drive system, though front-wheel drive XC90s are likely to be a part of the range internationally.

India will not get any petrol engines either, at least initially.

Volvo has already been talking about adding more Polestar variants, the company hasn't said anything about an XC90 Polestar. However, there's a lot riding on the XC90 so we wouldn't be surprised if one is under consideration

Boxy, yet classy! Exactly the thoughts that came to my mind as well. Also feel that the boxy feel of the front and sides dont gel with that rear end design, particularly the tail lamp section.

I personally liked this design. It is modern yet understated and certainly has a Scandinavian flair to it. It was about time Volvo completely overhauled the aging XC90 in face of stiff competition from Audi Q7, BMW X5, Porsche Cayenne and the Merc GL.

The design, although a little boxy, does complete justice to the car as this belongs to the super heavy-duty SUV stable and should look the part. I feel that it will help lift the image of Volvo worldwide due to its subtle design cues. Lately, Volvo has been designing some really good looking cars and this is a step in the right direction.

I particularly liked the top-pose (in the news section). And it's good that they have done away with the waterfall console dashboard. Not that anything was wrong with it in the first place, just that it is used in almost all of their vehicles and this class needed something distinct, something unique. In love with the overall proportions of this car. Can't wait to see one in person.

I find the design quite elegant. They look to be progressing nicely after the Geely takeover, and with this model they look to enter a new era as far as the interiors are concerned; especially the portrait positioning of the touchscreen looks quite unique.
