Nepal: The NADA Auto Show, 2014

Folks! Our neighboring country Nepal too shares same enthusiasm like us when it comes to cars. To show their enthusiasm, Nepal Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) shall be starting the "The Nada Auto Show 2014" from tomorrow i.e 03rd September 2014 in Kathmandu.

Quote:
According to NADA, 12 brands of four-wheelers and 11 brands of two-wheelers will showcase their vehicles. These participants include Daihatsu, Ford, Fiat, Hyundai, Honda, Kia, Skoda, Nissan, Suzuki, Tata Motors, Volkswagen, Hero Motocorp, Bajaj, Mahindra, KTM, Royal Enfield, Terra Motors, UM Bikes, TVS and Yamaha.
This 5 day annual event is the biggest motor show in Nepal and it will see more than 100 stalls showcasing 53 exhibitors and at least over a half-dozen new vehicle launches of 2014. More than 50,000 visitors are expected to arrive in it.

Some pics of the confirmed car brands:

Nepal being near to India does share a lot of commonalities. Even I too could not make out any real difference when I saw the list of cars. However, my only question is that how come the cars that we buy here for 8-9 lakhs, are sold for 20 lakhs or higher in Nepal?

Don't go on literal abbreviation, It actually means, Nepal Automobile Dealers Association.

Thanks

Likewise, they must have a terrible excise duty structure. They were not even allowed before 2011 if I am not wrong. Never late for govt's to realize how much money they can earn with import duties!

Nepal unlike India doesn't have any domestic manufacturer. All the car are imported and this creates huge revenue for the government. As far as I remember the Duty & taxes are approx 150%. Therefore a Rs. 4 lacs Indian car will attract a duty of Rs. 6 lacs making its selling price Rs. 10 lacs and that is INR. This translates to Rs. 16 lacs (Nepali Rs.). On observing rates in Nepal I have come a simple equation :

If X is the cost of car in India then the cost of the same car in Nepal would be 4X in Nepali currency.

Although Nepal imports a lot of cars from India, Chinese & Korean cars are liked by the general public as well. You can actually see many KIAs roaming around in Nepal .

Re: Nepal: The NADA Auto Show, 2014

The FIATs launched for Nepal seem to be lacking a lot of equipments. Those wheel caps look really out of place on the Punto Evo and the facelifted Linea!

Considering the poor service coverage in India, anyone knows if FIAT has proper sales / service centers in Nepal?
