re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

Hi,
found this link on internet and thought to share.

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014...n_5779336.html

[quote]Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans has denied rumours he will replace controversial Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson if his contract is not renewed, saying this is "100% not going to happen".

(...)

But Evans took to Twitter to rubbish the claims.

He said: "Hilarious story in today's paper re me replacing Clarkson on Top Gear.

"100% not true. 100% never going to happen. 100% time for a fry up."

re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

Clarkson gets out a sense of humor which we want to but cant. Some of his rants are valid but i dont think anybody has put together a show on cars as well as he did. He may shout for the fun factor but when he goes ga ga over a car have you noticed how well he does it.

I for one believe it is the politics in bbc and that clarkson gets alot of attention which is why they are trying to get him down.

He has apologised for the latest controversy and i think that was fair. Asking him to leave is kinda hard.

If i was him i would leave the show and start my own. Slow and Hammond would join him for sure. There is more networks who would jump to have them on.

Political Correctness!

re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

I think we like the show and we like clarkson. But i also feel its a little insensitive to say its all jokes and fun. If this show was in comedy central no one is going to question. In a place like BBC racism as fun is NOT right.

And you and i can hardly get away with racism at work for such a slurr. Try it and you will be fired with no warning. You can say it was a joke and your friends can say no one takes him seriously.

Racist comments as comedy element is WRONG.

I would be surprised if BBC let him continue after all this attention. The slope comment was not an accident and it was clearly meant at that point of the video.

Though his friends tried to play it nice, everyone knows his history does not help him get away with it.

I wish he stays but if they sack, i think its not wrong. Its fine and he can start with an apology in another channel.

And i was the one who posted his apology and believe its ok but not enough.

.

Its not so much about whether its jokes and fun as whether anybody would/should take Clarkson seriously in the first place on any matter other then cars. I'm not sure I would consider Topgear a car show at all. Its just entertainement and I do enjoy it very much. With people playing parts and characters. So be it.

I have said it before on this forum, I don't understand why (famous) people are being looked up to, or listened to on topics and or matters they have no expertise in at all, or have consistently failed to display any common knowledge or common sense or courtesy on. Its everybody's own choice to feel offended, but I would suggest not taking the Clarkson's of this world seriously at all, does help. By taking him seriously we attach to much credit and importance to the nutters of this world.

I would hope that if there are big public outcries, it is about something that really matters. Now, I appreciate that what matters is in the eye of the beholder, but for me some looney on an, albeit very popular, entertainment show is nothing to get exited about. Lets keep that for things that really matter.

re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

Jeroen,

My question is just because you dont take him seriously does that give him all the rights to pass racist comments?

Its not about taking him seriously and honestly if you take him seriously there is something wrong with us.

But that does not mean he can be racist so people wont take him seriously under BBC banner. As i said, its the BBC banner that is in question and not clarkson.

We love the show because he is goofy and stupid and makes the entertainment really worth watching better than soaps.

BBC has been very tolerant but you cant expect much from bbc taking action on him. Had clarkson was one from the sub continent, he would have been fired years ago. thats what BBC is fighting now. Should they continue to ignore or take a stand to say they are not racist as such. Thats my take

To be very honest, I think by calling it racism we are already attaching to much importance to it. This lot, Clarkson in particular, has been offending and or making shocking comments on everybody and everything under the sun.

Watching Clarkson and company always reminds me of a favourite book of mine, The Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy. Actually, a series of several books. In it is a character called Bowerick Wowbagger who, and I quote from the hitchhiker wiki:

Quote:
Bowerick Wowbagger the Infinitely Prolonged is an immortal being who became immortal after an accident with a few rubber bands, a liquid lunch, and a particle accelerator. After a period of total boredom, especially on Sunday afternoons, he decided to insult everyone in the entire universe in alphabetical order.
So I do believe everything they do is very well thought out and scripted. Nothing on this show happens by chance or accident. At least not as far as the text is concerned. But I do believe the ultimate motive is not much difference then for Bowerick, they just want to insult everyone in the entire universe. It's part of what they are or pretent to be. Part of this show is offending/shocking people.

re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

I have posted this before in here.

BBC will have to replace all the three of them together. I wouldn't like to see a new fellow in the mix unless its Stig.

And when its time for JC, May and Richard to call it quits, BBC should do a proper reboot of the franchise. Casino Royale style. All substance and business till the new team builds the trust and standing with the viewers.

And a team comprising of Chris Harris (from /drive), Mat Watson (from /carbuyer) and maybe Chris Evans. I am not sure about Evans as much as the other two.

Re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

I'm a huge fan of Clarkson & his presentation style. I personally wouldn't watch Top Gear even 10% of what I do right now if Jeremy leaves the show. He is a talented entertainer and a big contributor to Top Gear's success. The show has what, 300+ million viewership worldwide? That's insanely good.

Anyone can do a car show that talks only about cars. There's thousands of them out there. Show me one that is so entertaining, witty & humourous. It's precisely this reason why even non-car people watch Top Gear.

If BBC is indeed planning to replace him (which I highly doubt), it'll be a bad move. Jeremy still has a couple of good years left in him.

Something similiar happened with the show "two and a half men" when Charlie Sheen left the show.
2 and a half men is the exact show I was thinking of when reading this thread. I like both versions, with Charlie Sheen as well as Ashton Kutcher.

That's my thought as well. Chopping off one of the three (that too the main pillar) will be disastrous. I hope the three continue for a few more seasons.
Irrespective of the so-called controversies, lewd language etc., I love the show, and Clarkson’s presentation especially. For proper car shows, there are the likes of Fifth Gear anyway.

I am not so sure of Chris Harris. His reviews are excellent, but he looks more like someone who's cut for a pure car show. Mat Watson is pretty cool, and he got that cockiness (in a likeable way) required for the show. Anyway, he is now like the sole face of Carbuyer after Rebecca’s exit

Ashton Kutcher is good, but he ain't no Charlie Sheen!

Ditto for Jeremy Clarkson. There are other shows (one on Discovery Turbo called Fifth Gear which is a Top Gear wannabe/ripoff, I believe it was commissioned as a replacement to Top Gear in the early 2000s), but none get close to the entertainment value of Top Gear.

Like you say, a lot of their viewership isn't even petrol-heads, they just watch for the fun. I'm yet to come across another car show that holds my attention the same way (I do love 'Wheeler Dealers' on D-Turbo).

I'm a huge fan of Clarkson & his presentation style especially how he introduces the stig before each time lap, some say.... If he is going to be replaced then BBC have decided to shoot themselves in the foot.

will may and hammond still be part of the show or is top gear going to be hosted by chris alone?

TG is synonymous with JC- take him away and the show will lose its soul. You may love him or hate him, but you sure cant deny that TG is what it is because of JC!

Re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

Without jezza Top Gear would be just like fifth gear , awfully boring that is. Now I follow a lot of car shows but no host can bring in that weird humor into an automotive show the way jezza can. None of the shows I follow can make me laugh the way clarkson can. If he leaves, he will be sorely missed and I dont think there is a worthy replacement.

Re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

Well, stepping aside from the matter of whether clarkson does/doesnt have the freedom to behave the way he does while telecasting under the BBC banner; it will be really a tragedy if he is replaced. It is like throwing the baby along with the bathwater. Either replace all 3 presenters and reboot the show or just stop top gear and start another motoring show. It would be prudent to keep brand top gear 'undiluted'.
Yes the jokes are getting repetitive, yes some of the spontaneity is eroded & yes they themselves look too old to be making 'old people' jokes. But somewhere along these 22 seasons, the show became more about the 3 presenters and less about cars. Viewers dont care what cars are being reviewed, they just wait to find out how ridiculous the next review is going to be. Suffice to say, nobody watches top gear to 'know' about cars, they watch it to 'feel' how it would be to drive the really expensive ones & as an icing on the cake, laugh at the expense of three middle aged men.

It really is the best motoring show ....

Re: Rumour: Top Gear to replace Jeremy Clarkson

Well I've been watching Top Gear since they ran the old series back in the 90's, back then Clarkson was just a lad, I've become a die hard fan of the show since it started airing again back in 02, I just can't imagine Top Gear without Clarkson. It would be impossible to watch the show without his hilarious analogies. I have to admit that he can be racist at times. Let me put it this way, if Jeremy picked on someone else... you'd would laugh your ass off, however if he'd pick on you, you'd frown. Top Gear today is one of the most watched shows on the planet and Clarkson one of the most renowned motoring journalists. I mean people do take him seriously. Taking Jeremy out of the equation would be the BBC's biggest blunder.
