Microbus enthusiasts will enjoy this post, looks like Volkswagen is all set to launch the Microbus in 2015.

A cute resemblance of the original Microbus fully loaded with modern features is similar to the VW beetle in the current profile. This vehicle is stated to be manufactured in Europe and Considered to be competition to Honda Odyssey, Nissan Quest, and also Toyota Sienna.

Now I have a question, will Volkswagen consider Microbus as Competition to Innova ? I wish Honda too thinks about introducing the Odyssey here, my experience in Odyssey for the past 3 years in US was so good and I miss it a lot.

Don't you think the Odyssey/Sienna (and consequently the microbus) is a size much larger than the Innova? If they do launch the Odyssey in India - it would be a 30 lakhs + vehicle.

Looks gorgeously modern from the outside but a very noob question: Why is it called microbus and not minivan; especially when it can seat just 6?

Minivan is the segment or general name while Microbus is the model name given by the manufacturer like Jetta, Passat, etc.

It was an iconic vehicle, usually associated with the hippie culture, often called "hippie van".

I have seen the Microbus converted into a streetside bar. Many owners have painted the microbus.

Wish VW can get this to India

My personal experience driving Odyssey in USA, it is no bigger than the Innova. But the engine is definitely huge with 3.5L V6 powered, and same story goes with Sienna as well.

The Microbus is in my opinion smaller than the Innova and should fit in to Honda Mobilio class in size. I think the price point only comes as last thing as we have Tata Nano to RR Phantom all are sharing the roads here.

Sadly, Jalopnik reports this news to be a troll. Apparently, this VW concept came long back in 2001 and the website used it to gain web traffic.

The Type 2 (one model pictured below) was VW' second ever model after the Beetle and is known as the Microbus.

Perhaps your impression maybe that .. But the Sienna and Odyssey are about half a meter longer - and about 10 inches wider and a lot lower to the floor and have a lot more cabin room. Also, isn't the Innova RWD and body on frame - unlike all of the minivans that are FWD based? Anyway all that is off topic, since it has been established that this whole story was a hoax.

Looks very nice. Retro chic as well as modern at the same time.

My only boring practical take is that the first and last row seem to have very little vehicle room in terms of collisions. Not much of a bonnet and the last row also seems quite way back.
