Maybach Revival: S600 to be joined by S500 & S400 4MATIC

New Mercedes Sub-Brands:-

Mercedes has also started two new sub-brands, namely Mercedes-AMG & Mercedes-Maybach. Mercedes-AMG coincides with the launch of the new Mercedes-AMG GT. So, What was previously the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG will now be called the Mercedes-AMG C63 and the badging on the boot lid will also change with the AMG going to the left and C63, E63, etc badge going to the right.

For now, the Mercedes-Maybach brand will only be available for S-Class sedan. But, in the future it could be opened up for new models too.

To Summarize:
The expanded brand world of Mercedes-Benz now comprises two sub-brands alongside Mercedes-Benz as the core brand, whereby Mercedes-Benz stands for "The best", in a unique combination of emotional fascination and intelligent persuasiveness. Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach interpret "The best" from the perspective of performance and exclusivity-seeking customers respectively.

Maybach Revival: S600 To Be Joined By S500 & S400 4MATIC

A long stint of testing, spy shots, speculation and Maybach is now all set to make its return. Daimler will revive Maybach as a sub brand that will be based on the current generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class to begin with. Initial reports suggested that the brand would debut with the S 600. It has now been revealed that the German car maker will also launch the S 500 and S 400 4MATIC under the revived moniker.

The range topping S 600 is powered by a 6.0-litre, V12 engine that is expected to produce a maximum power output of around 530 bhp. The S 500 is powered by a 4.7-litre V8 that produces 455 bhp of power and 700 Nm of torque. The S 400 4MATIC is propelled by a 3.0-litre V6 that makes 333 bhp of power and 480 Nm of torque, driven to all four wheels.

The S 600 will make its debut on December 18th, 2014. The limousine will be priced below the discontinued Maybach 57 which started at around $380,000.

Smart move. This is the best way they could have used the Maybach badge.

Truth is, every S-Class from the W220 onward has been superior to the 4-times-as-expensive Maybach 57 / 62. What an irony!

Re: Maybach Revival: S600 to be joined by S500 & S400 4MATIC

I was very sad to see the the Maybach brand being pulled out for a while when it was.
So happy to see the comeback!
Somehow just the name 'Maybach' makes me smile! I know that Rolls-Royce outsold it like hot-cakes, I still had soft-corner for the expensive underdog Maybach!

I had seen the King of good time's limo at the Andheri workshop (it had a Rs.5 lac worth repair for something that went wrong) and boy I was blown away on seeing the interiors! Exteriors looked so-so.

Also, I see a Mercedes-Benz logo instead of that 'M-upon-M' Maybach logo maybe because the Mercedes logo looks more premium?
Anyway, good to see it back.

Wait a minute, isn't this a bad idea?

I mean the biggest problem with the previous maybach was that it felt just like a plebeian's mercedes. Now it has openly become one. I mean isn't that just diluting the the brand "Maybach". Isn't that like BMW releasing a model called BMW Rolls Royce 760i Phantom.

And what is this? A V6? In a Maybach? What's next? A diesel? Ewwww
The guys at Bentley and Rolls Royce must be smirking now.

Re: Maybach Revival: S600 to be joined by S500 & S400 4MATIC

If i have understood this correctly the Maybach is no longer playing in the segment in which they were previously. They are coming down a segment and people have always liked the Maybachs, just that for the money you had far more accomplished cars.

Hence they are now coming a segment down and of course this is going to be a Mercedes with no bar on the quality and costs. In a way the ultimate Mercedes.

This will have exclusivity and the only focus would be on comfort, just like the AMG stands for ultimate performance.

Well, if Rols Royce did it with the Ghost and other variants why not the Merc? Anyways the new Maybach was a no seller in any market. People just bought it to prove a point. It looked ugly and i couldnt understand why anyone buy a Mercedes which was more expensive than a Rolls Royce. Same logic a why the Kisashi didnt sell or the Camry still has poor sales. High price and though the brands are bullet proof..... but in another league.

The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class goes on sale in February 2015. The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class measures 5453 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 3365 mm. This gives the limousine an additional 207 mm in length and 200 mm in wheelbase, over the S-Class LWB.

Good to see the old school retro wheels on the Maybach S600.

Would be easier to clean and maintain as well.

The Maybach moniker made its comeback with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class alone. However, if the limousine proves to be a successful offering, the German car maker may expand its Maybach range with more models.

Re: Maybach Revival: S600 to be joined by S500 & S400 4MATIC

Mercedes-Maybach Pullman variant launched.

The new Mercedes-Maybach Pullman assumes the top-of-the-range position. Its length of 6.50 metres alone is a sign of the special status of the Mercedes-Maybach Pullman. It provides the space for a generously-sized and tastefully-appointed club lounge in the rear, with a multitude of creature comforts fitted as standard. The VIP occupants sit on two standard-specification executive seats facing the direction of travel. They can enjoy the greatest legroom in the segment; and can get into and out of the car with the greatest of ease and comfort.

As is typical for a Pullman, the four passengers can sit facing each other in the compartment with an electrically-operated partition window.

Rumour: Maybach might come to India

In an interview, MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India - Eberhard Kern, suggested that there exists a strong demand for super-luxury cars in India, which is why they might bring Maybach to grab a piece of the pie. When it arrives, the Maybach will be an alternate option for Rolls Royce and Bentley buyers. Its own sibling - the S500 too, will be one of its core rival; product cannibalization will be evident.

Re: Maybach Revival: S600 to be joined by S500 & S400 4MATIC

Mercedes Benz mulling to launch the Maybach and Smart SUVs. Reportedly the Maybach SUV will be based on the Merc GL Class and the Smart SUV will be based on the Smart Forfour/Renault Twingo. A 6.0 litre twin-turbo V12 will power the top spec version.

Here is a quoted text from Autocar India's website:

Quote:
Mercedes-Benz is reportedly considering launching a new SUV under the Maybach and Smart brand. The Maybach SUV is expected to be based on the next generation of the GL-class which is expected to be rebadged GLS under Mercedes new badging system. The Smart SUV or crossover is however expected to be based on the Smart Forfour/Renault Twingo platform.

Mercedes-Benz marketing chief Ola Kallenius has reportedly said that the Maybach brand could go beyond the current existing Maybach and Pullman models and that a GLS-based SUV was a possibility. The company is expected to use the next generation of the GLS that is due as early as 2017 as it will be based on a similar platform to the current S-class.

Mercedes is likely to focus mainly on luxury in the Maybach model, to keep it separate from the performance-based AMG models. Engines likely to make their way onto the Maybach models are the 6.0-litre twin-turbo V12 used in the current Maybach model and a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 for a less-extravagant variant. The Maybach may not receive a diesel, and will be targeted mainly at the Chinese and American market.

The Smart SUV or crossover model could be a move by Mercedes to turn the brand into a long- term profit maker as the company always wanted it be. Mercedes-Benz CEO said there were likely to be engineering issues with the Smart SUV model because of its space-efficient rear engine/rear drive configuration but added that “if we were to go for any expansion for the Smart family, the SUV segment would be the one to look into.”
