Images of a new low-cost compact SUV, believed to be from Renault have emerged on the internet. The SUV is smaller than the Duster and is likely to be sold in emerging markets in the future.

Going be the images, the test mule of the SUV appears to be very basic. It has a grille that resembles that of the Duster facelift, small wheels and thin tyres, budget ORVMs and single windscreen wiper. The lights of the car resemble those on other Dacia models.

The SUV could be manufactured in either Morocco or Algeria. It is likely to be heading to various emerging markets including Russia.

Renault has not revealed any plans of bringing this car to India. However, with the compact SUV market being as lucrative as it is and more and more manufacturers planning to join the fray, the French manufacturer will not want to be left behind.

I guess they'll call it "Renault Hideouster" Thats what it looks like. I mean come on...If you want to save money, so much so that you install a single wiper blade, why try to sell an "SUV" at all? Just another over inflated (and ugly) hatchback...

On the other hand, Mahindra will love it if this car is sold in India. All of a sudden, their Quanto will move one place up from the bottom of looks department.

Yea, you're right, does look different. Was checking from office, didn't have a good look. Going thru the Taigun photos properly now, the similarities are less. The badge in the grill also fits the Renault logo perfectly.

Man! That thing looks so shoddy. M800 had better ORVMs compared to that.

Sad to say this, but it looks a definite possibility for our market.

Isn't there already a Renault Captur (ugly enough, but better looking than the Nissan Juke that it is based on). Renault Captur Website

If the Nissan Juke ever comes to India, that title will belong to the Juke.

+1.

In fact, it looks like it is designed with the Indian market as a main consideration. The length looks sub-4m and should be aimed against the Ecosport in our market.

Afterall, what is sold as a very basic car in their home markets is sold as a premium SUV here, only problem being the presence of Ecosport underneath in terms of pricing. A sub-4m SUV should take care of that.

This has as much road presence as an Alto. Wonder how these are classified as SUVs anyway?!

I thought it could be the Captur too, but in EU markets the Captur is more expensive than the Duster. The face (high placed headlights) does look like the Captur for sure.

I was alternatively guessing it was the Dacia Sandero, but Sandero is essentially a hatchback.

Manufacturers are going over each other giving ugly looking vehicles. How many people have succeeded in this quest of giving something inexpensive (except Maruti here).

Price of Renault Duster which is supposedly their premium offering in India (Ex-Showroom/Base Model/ Maharashtra-Thane) - Rs. 7.78L

Why would one need a so called 'SUV' for a lower cost? In fact, it will be something with little more capabilities than a regular hatchback.

Tata did (undercut Maruti), except that there weren't many takers :) and have long way to change that perception. The 'inexpensive' mantra doesn't work on all segments either, its more of perceived 'value' for money.

What's the point of posting these camo pics? Isn't it just a rebadged Sandero Stepway?
