Jaguar Land Rover starts building new plant in Brazil

Jaguar Land Rover has started construction of a new plant in Brazil. The British car maker's fully owned plant is being constructed at a cost of $290 million. The facility will also house JLR's first education business partnership centre outside the UK. With this, Jaguar Land Rover becomes the first British automotive company to invest in a manufacturing plant in Brazil.

The Brazilian plant will employ 400 workers, with the production capacity coming in at 24,000 units annually. JLR will be sourcing a range of components from local suppliers, but will also import parts from its global supply chain.

It has also been confirmed that the Land Rover Discovery Sport will be produced at this plant. The first units of the Freelander's replacement are expected to roll off the production line in 2016. This moves follows the opening of JLR's plant in China.
