Ford EcoSport recalled in Australia over wiring defect

Ford has recalled a total of 2804 EcoSports in Australia over a suspected wiring defect. The issue in question may cause the side airbags to not deploy correctly in the event of an accident. According to the official release published on the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) website, vehicles built from June 15th, 2013 through to August 26th, 2014 are subject to this recall.

The official statement says "The curtain airbag, seat belt pre-tensioner and side impact sensor circuits have been incorrectly orientated in the main wiring harness." This recall is not related to the Takata corp issue that has impacted multiple brands globally.

Ford India exports the EcoSport to various markets world-over including Australia, South Africa, Taiwan and several European countries. So far the recall has only been confirmed in Australia. In India, curtain airbags are standard with the Titanium AT and Titanium (o) variants.

Re: Ford EcoSport recalled in Australia over wiring defect

Hey Tushar, thank you for sharing this with us.

I've cross-posted this onto the EcoSport official review thread, since this might be of relevance to owners here also - since the manufacturing base is the same.

Re: Ford EcoSport recalled in Australia over wiring defect

The equivalent Indian recall has been reported here.

There are up to 2 FSAs at this point, listed below. Owners can check if their EcoSport is included in either FSA by checking with their VIN number at the Ford India FSA page: http://www.india.ford.com/ford-servi...service-action

The first FSA is about potential rusting in some fuel line, and appears to be limited to either the petrol models only, or to specifically the EcoBoost engine:
Quote:
1 FSA Number: S1403
FUEL TUBE AND VAPOUR TUBE REPLACEMENT
The second FSA is the wiring issue reported above, and affects the variants having 6 airbags - irrespective of engine/drivetrain.
Quote:
2 FSA Number: S1411
RCM CONNECTOR WIRING
