Mod Note: Our Captur Report has been taken live at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the new thread. Thanks!

Hi Guys,

Renault recently launched this nicely crafted vehicle on the road of the UAE.

120 BHP Turbo at 57900 Dirhams.

It makes sense for Renault India to launch it in India and capitalize on the demand by those who wants to upgrade from Duster.

Unfortunately neither the name nor the pseudo SUV looks enticing!!

At 58K AED(close to Rs. 10 lacs INR for a base variant), it would also not make commercial sense if launched.

When I spoke to Renault during a recent test drive event, they stated that the Captur would be too expensive to sell over here

Captur is a true Renault and not a rebadged Dacia. Its smaller than the Duster and with a premium price point, it could be another slow mover for Renault (similar to the Fluence and Koleos).

Too expensive to compete against EcoSport and Duster/Terrano.

Too timid against XUV/CRV.

Maybe in a few years time, the facelifted Captur can replace the Duster though.

Already Duster is getting them the numbers inspite of being optimistically priced. They wont want to jeopardize that by trying to stretch their luck too much with this one. At this price point this one will become another Yeti. agree:

Renault India may launch the Captur after all.
Although, the 120hp version pictured above is less likely to be seen, we could get scaled down engines like those on the Duster.
Reports also suggest it could sit above or below the Duster.
Interesting to see if they want to sell premium or fight Ford.

Looks rather reptilian. But I am sure it is a highly capable beast.
Renault has wonderful suspension and I think thats really one of its best features.

Here is a Capture review by Carbuyer which I had seen last year.

And I do remember Ajit mentioning in that forum that Renault told him that it would be too costly to get Captur to India. But having said that, I do read about rumours that Renault is mulling to bring in a younger sibling to the Duster.

Interestingly, both Capture and Duster are similarly priced.
Captur
AED 57900 - 65000
Duster
AED 49900 - 63500 (4x2)
AED 58500 - 60000 (4x4)

However, Capture does not come with AWD option.

I just wanted to add in my 2c. In international markets, the Renault Captur costs more than the Renault-badged Dacia Duster. However, in India, the Renault Duster sells with a 1.6L engine instead of a 2.0L engine. If the Captur is sold in India with its existing 1.2L (turbocharged) engine alongside the 1.6L Duster, the price gap would be wider.

They launched it! It looks good on photos. Need to go check it out. Seems bookings are open!
