Honda to pay $70 million fine to US Govt

Honda Motor Co has been fined $70 million by NHSTA in penalties for failing to report hundreds of injuries, deaths and other consumer claims involving its cars.

Honda failed to report 1729 cases involving deaths or injuries between 2003 & 2014 as per Early Warning Reporting regulations of NHSTA.
Eight of those incidents involved Takata Corp airbag failures.

NHTSA's Early Warning Reporting regulations require automakers to report quickly any information about possible defects, deaths and or damage and warranty claims made by consumers.

Re: Honda to pay $70 million fine to US Govt

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has just levied a whopping $70 million (over INR 442 crore approx) in fines against Honda Motor Co in the USA. The Japanese car maker will face these penalties for failing to report deaths, injuries, and certain warranty claims to the federal government in violation of the US TREAD Act.
