Skoda produces its 17 millionth vehicle

Volkswagen subsidiary and Czech car maker Skoda has officially produced its 17 millionth vehicle. The "Jubilee car" produced was a Skoda Rapid Spaceback that will go to a customer in Germany. The landmark moment traces its beginning to the year 1905, when company founders Laurin & Klement produced their first vehicle - a Voiturette A. Since then, the brand has produced 17 million vehicles at their Czech and international plants. Skoda produces its vehicles at 13 production locations in the Czech Republic, China, India, Russia, Slovakia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.

It was in 2014 that Skoda sold over 1 million units in a single year, recording the highest annual sales in the company's 120 year history. Skoda's ambitions continue to rise, as the brand is now targeting sales of "at least" 1.5 million units annually. Of the 17 million produced, 12 million units were manufactured after the VW group took over Skoda in 1991.
