Koenigsegg's new Hypercar, the Regera. 1500 horses, 0 - 400 kph in 20 seconds

While the LaFerrari, P1 and 918 fight it out in the hypercar territory, Koenigsegg has shifted dimensions into the world of megacars. After the One : 1 , they have launched what seems to be their most outrageous car yet - the Regera!

Powered by 1500hp generated from a 5.0L V8 and electric motors, the Regera can hit 100kph in 2.8s and 400kph in a claimed...wait for it...20 seconds!! The 918 does 0-300 in 20+seconds! Does Koenigsegg has what it takes to bring forth what seems to be the God of all cars? Only time will tell.

Your move, Bugatti!

re: Koenigsegg's new Hypercar, the Regera. 1500 horses, 0 - 400 kph in 20 seconds

That's one car with insane numbers! And we thought the One:1 was mega!

The 5.0 L twin-turbo V8 makes 1100bhp and the triplet (yes!) of electric motors make around 700bhp more. And there is no transmission!

Regera uses something called the Koenigsegg Direct Drive system. There's a small, crank-mounted electric motor to fill the torque gap (and act as a starter motor) together with a hydraulic coupling. From take-off, with the coupling open, the car power off purely on electric drive. As soon as it gains a few more revs, the hydraulic coupling begins to close, and the smaller crank-mounted electric motor joins in to help the bottom part of the torque curve. And then finally, once the engine gets up to speed, that kicks in from around 30mph upwards.

Want one? The Regera's base price is $1,890,000 - just over £1.2m - and Christian is only building 80 units. "We've already sold four even before anybody has seen the car," he tells us, "so the mood for this feels very positive".

Christian von Koenigsegg is really made of something else.

re: Koenigsegg's new Hypercar, the Regera. 1500 horses, 0 - 400 kph in 20 seconds

This is simply mind blowing stuff by Koenigsegg

Quote:
This is Koenigsegg’s first hybrid; the internal combustion engine side is taken care of by a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, which makes 1085bhp at 7800rpm on its own. On top of that you’ve got three electric motors, one on each rear wheel making 192lb ft of torque each, and a third on the crankshaft making 221lb ft. All told these three add about 700bhp. Chuck that all in a bowl and mix it together for a frankly incredible 1782bhp and 1475lb ft of torque.

Power delivery is so intense that the 0-62mph sprint takes 2.7sec, but it could be quicker - the car is essentially limited by its traction control system being able to get the power down. Once it’s hooked up, though, there’s no stopping it: 0-186mph takes 12 seconds, while 0-250mph is despatched in under 20 seconds. 93mph to 155mph takes 3.2sec. Three. Point. Two. Seconds. That is mind scrambling pace.
The exterior doesn’t have the same aggressive elegance of the Agera this car is based on, but it’s no less of a technological marvel. There are massive side scoops, an active chassis with active shock absorbers, active aero under the car and an adjustable rear wing.

And priced at around £1.2m, or $1.8m

This may be rather pointless, but if I had the money, I would buy it just for that centrally mounted wiper! It looks too cool!

Koenigsegg is really taking the game to another level with this one. Rather than boasting of a rather academic top-speed not achievable by most drivers on most roads (or tracks for that matter), they have endowed it with mind-numbing acceleration! I test cars for a living, and we need to accelerate and brake hard every time. At the end of the day, it is pretty tiring and you end up with a head-ache since our bodies are designed to take only so much.

I cannot imagine the stress those g levels are going to put on the driver. Reminds me of Jeremy hurting his neck in the GT-R!

I dont know why is should be even allowed to be driven without a roof ? why would anyone want to drive this anywhere other than a track ?
According to TG blokes, out of all insane speed demons, nothing could come close to the NVH refinement of the bugatti when actually going at those insane speeds. Not sure how this would fare.
Bugatti are waiting in the wings with their follow-up to the veyron, btw.

This is mind boggling. A true hyper car and makes the Buggati Veyron look ancient. The innovations are also amazing. Thanks to GKR9900 for sharing the Shmee video which shows it in so much detail.
Since Cristian von Koenigsegg is giving numbers , means a driveable car is already there which is being tested. Amazing.

Koenigsegg is positioning the Regera as a luxury hypercar. The Agera RS and One : 1 are the hardcore models. If so, I think it's safe to assume that the Regera should fare pretty well in the NVH department.

Oh yeah! The whole automotive world is waiting for the Veyron successor! It's funny that Bugatti has to fight pretty hard to keep up their reputation in a segment that was literally invented by them.

Aaaha!! Ferrari, McLaren and Porsche the 3 giants were on cloud nine with their launches and a comparatively smaller Swedish manufacturer shows them how Hybrid supercars(or rather hypercars) are done!

Koenigsegg or as the Top Gear 'Lap Times board' has it - "Koenigggggnignigsegigisegggg" had already surpassed the Veyron with its One:1. With this, I reckon VW will pump massive amount of money into the Bugatti factory and try and reclaim the numero uno position..

Re: Koenigsegg's new Hypercar, the Regera. 1500 horses, 0 - 400 kph in 20 seconds

Slowly but steadily, the "cutting-edge-showcase" has moved away from F1, LeMans, and other such racetracks, to commercially available models on sale.
Around the turn of the millenium, there was only ferrari & lamborghini who were the benchmarks (the mclaren F1 was a one-off exception).

Ever since the mid-2000's, in the super-speedster category, we have had models from pagani, porsche, koenigsegg, bugatti (the concorde moment as JC puts it), mclaren (a really long gap after the F1) and even small non-mainstream guys like gumpert/ascari etc. It sure is not at all "lonely at the top" - no.

Now, with petrol-electic combo, most of the big contenders from the above list already have raised the bar further. If NVH is well-covered by the Regera (as mr.koenigsegg claims in the video), then well, we have a new yardstick to replace the veyron.

It suddenly became a house of chocolate for the insanely-rich-but-terminally-bored arab prince who was waiting to blow up some pocket money.

Last night IIRC, I was having a late dinner and on discovery turbo they aired a beautiful episode of the "Making of the Porcshe 918"... I was in awe at the project, team, huge factory, nurbug' "Less Than 7 Seconds" lap time and all.

Then this thread/car makes ^ look 'Duh'
