Mitsubishi developing a compact MPV The compact MPV segment in India has seen the advent of new player over the past few years. The two most popular contenders include the Maruti Ertiga and Honda Mobilio. While Mitsubishi is expected to launch the Delica MPV and Attrage sedan in India, in Indonesia, Mitsubishi Motors CEO Osamu Masuko has just confirmed the brands’ plans for a compact MPV.
Mitsubishi began construction of its new plant in Bekasi, Indonesia. During the inaugural event, an image with the silhouette of the compact MPV was also released. The design hints at the possibility of it being based on the Mitsubishi AR Concept, which was first seen at the 2013 Tokyo motor show. The production of the MPV will begin in August 2017 at the new plant and the 7-seater will be powered by a 1.5L petrol engine.
Small MPVs are very popular in Indonesia and account for around 36% of the auto industry sales in the region. While the MPV has been confirmed for Indonesia, no plans have been announced for a launch in India. Given that there hasn’t been a mention of a diesel engine, a launch in India can only be speculated for now.
