First to be released is this saloon, badged Egea in the Turkish market, which is where it’s built. For the UK and mainland Europe markets, however, Fiat is reviving the Tipo nameplate (from the late 1980s and early 1990s) and has set-up additional five-door hatch and wagon versions which are yet to be revealed, to be sold alongside the four-door. While this new sedan is out now, the coming hatch and wagon editions are set to appear at the Geneva show next spring.

Designed around the brief ‘Skills not Frills’ and claiming to provide class-topping roominess, boot capacity and value for money, Fiat’s newcomer is based on the same platform used by the Jeep Renegade. Up front, there’s an orthodox mix of 1.4-litre (94bhp) and 1.6-litre (108bhp) petrol Fiat group engines, along with 1.3-litre (94bhp) and 1.6-litre (118bhp) Multijet II diesels.

True, there was good pace from the gutsy 1.6 engine, but the lack of steering sharpness through turns was a surprise. So too was the amount of road noise, especially from the back of the car. The gearchange was also mediocre. Maybe the 1.4 petrol (which we didn’t try) would do better, being lighter on its feet and traditionally quieter.

For India, the Fiat Linea sedan is nearing the end of its lifecycle. The carmaker is currently evaluating between the Egea sedan or the South American Grand Siena. The new Egea is currently only available as a left-hand drive and to launch it in India, Fiat will have to invest in tooling for a right-hand-drive (RHD) version which will be hard to justify if India is the only market for the RHD car. All-in-all, we think this new sedan could just be the right model the company needs that could facilitate higher sales in our market and give it a proper “comeback” which Fiat has been looking for since a long time.

Re: Fiat Egea unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Auto Show

Just noticed from the pics posted by Ravenavi that the boot no longer gets the hydraulic struts like the Linea. Instead they provided the metal hinges which would protrude into the luggage space.

Cheers,
pdma.

Tipo? They can launch it here and name it Tipu! What a lousy name? But the real bummer is the remarks about the handling and there goes another drivers car that would be affordable. First the Ford with Aspire and now Fiat also joining the bandwagon . So I should think of getting your Fiesta when it's up for sale!

Re: Fiat Egea unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Auto Show

The car looks smashing from the front - the headlights though merge into the grille like the new BMW's and the grille itself is like the Lodgy special edition one. From the rear I can see a bit of Ciaz in it. Despite all this, Fiat has executed the car really well! But then exteriors were never Fiat's weak area, it's the interiors where Fiat goes wrong. On the face of it, the interiors look good but one can be sure only when we get to touch & feel it specially in India where aggressive cost cutting somehow always gets the interiors.

Engines are disappointing - the 1.6 MJD may be too expensive and we don't know for sure if it will come to India in the first place. Why no Tjet or MultiAir petrol motors?

Initial test drive report is disappointing although let us remember that European's view on driving dynamic's is different from ours. I can understand the dumbing down because of electric steering but I hope Fiat doesn't mess up the handling which has been the forte of the Punto platform.

Re: Fiat Egea unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Auto Show

The Foreign reviewer said it won't be giving " vw golf, Ford focus, Vauxhall astra" running for cover in the dynamics department. So that means this actually a D segment car like the octavia and civic and not a linea replacement or a Honda city rival. If that's the case, is there a legitimate chance of fiat bringing it here? D segment is not exactly a lively segment here in India. Even the default no nonsense corolla is barely making a mark. So how exactly fiat is going to launch this here?

FYI

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_Aegea

The Fiat Aegea (Type 356) is a family car, which was unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Motor Show in May 2015, and commenced sales in Turkey in October 2015.[1] In 2016, it will be followed by an hatchback and estate version, for the European market. The saloon version will not arrive for the United Kingdom, although the other variants will.

The Aegea is assembled at the Tofaş plant in Bursa, Turkey, by the Italian automaker Fiat as a world car in developing countries. It replaced the Linea in the B segment range.[2] It is based on the mix of current Fiat 500X, and 500L platforms. The Aegea was designed by Fiat Style Centre, and co-developed by Tofaş, an joint venture between the Fiat Group and Koç Holding.

Designed in Italy and engineered in Turkey, the Aegea project sits atop the same ‘small wide’ platform as the Fiat 500L/500X, Jeep Renegade and (to a lesser degree) Dodge Dart.

Not really.

Dodge Dart = FIAT Viaggio.

Aegea is a different model altogether.

Re: Fiat Egea unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Auto Show

Tipo reviewed.

Fiat Egea unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Auto Show-fre.jpg

Quote:
On the road it’s clear the Tipo has been set up with comfort in mind, with a soft setup smoothing out all but the roughest of Turin’s potholed roads. Some suspension thud is evident, but overall the Tipo is refined enough considering the competition. Enter a bend quickly and body roll is noticeable, however, while the steering is well-weighted but lacks any sense of feel.

Re: Fiat Egea unveiled at the 2015 Istanbul Auto Show

So, another hydraulic power steering is also gone! After Ford did it, Fiat was the only hope.
If there is body roll too, that seems to seal it, for enthusiasts :(

FCA patents the Egea in India. But before you rejoice it could mean be late 2018/19 launch.
