Hyundai Europe is busy testing a new engine variation for the freshly revealed Hyundai i20. Would rival the Volkswagen Polo GTI and Ford Fiesta ST.
Likely to be shown at the Frankfurt Motor show -2015

What appears to be the Hyundai i20 Turbo has been caught on camera for the very first time ahead of next year's possible launch

The identity of the engine is not known at this point, but the i20 Turbo could use a detuned version of the 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine from its bigger brother where it churns 186 PS (137 kW) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. If this turns out to be true, the i20 Turbo will likely have approximately 150 PS (110 kW) which should be enough for a feisty little machine on the budget.

This is a five-door hatchback, but Hyundai also has a three-door coupe version of the new i20 and chances are this will receive the Turbo treatment as well since the i30 Turbo is available in both body styles.

The Turbo model is partly derived from the i20 rally model. The suspension is tuned to be harder with a company claim of re-worked steering capability. The proof is all there in the below video :

As one can see the different tail-lamps of the i20 rally car is one of the key differences with its city-friendly model, as also the extended wheel-well and lighter chassis the prev-gen i20 is also being tested for under-chassis drive components. Hope this model can bring in a better name for Hyundai in terms of driving & handling. The engine should be a smaller version of the newly released i30 Turbo's 1.6 litre 183 BHP one, perhaps a 1.4 at best.

Now 2016 Hyundai i20 Active/Cross spied in Europe for the first time.





Already launched in India earlier this year, the Hyundai i20 Active has now been spied in southern Spain which means a European launch is being planned.

The new Euro-spec i20, will be further expanded by the addition of a slightly rugged version featuring a jacked up suspension, plastic body cladding and roof rails. Based on the Indian-spec i20 Active, expect its European counterpart to be 10 mm longer, 26 mm wider and 50 mm taller than the standard hatch and will benefit from a 20 mm increased ground clearance (at 190 mm).

Will come exclusively with a FWD layout and should carry over the engines from the other two body styles which are soon bound to receive a punchier three-cylinder, 1.0-liter turbo joining the 1.25- and 1.4-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated gasoline units and the 1.1- and 1.4-liter turbodiesels.
