re: Top Gear trio to return with a new show "The Grand Tour" on Amazon Prime!

Clarkson, Hammond and May To Launch DriveTribe Online Platform

The former Top Gear trio, apart from filming its new show for Amazon Prime, is working on a new online media platform for petrolheads.

Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May created a new company that will launch DriveTribe, a new digital platform that aims to become “the digital home for motoring fans worldwide”, according to Variety’s exclusive report.

Former Top Gear executive producer Andy Wilman is also participating in the new venture with tech entrepreneur Ernesto Schmitt being DriveTribe’s CEO.

The new website will be structured into different ‘tribes’, with each one having its own character and preferences. Clarkson, Hammond and May are going to generate their own content for the site via their own tribes. Users will be able to sign up on different tribes and even create their own. “What we are looking to do is build a next-generation vertical that is dedicated to motoring, and that really combines content, social and commerce,” Schmitt said.

Richard Hammond said: “We know we can do, and are doing, and always will do the high-production value long-form TV stuff. That’ll never change, that’s us at heart. But we are doing that, of course, in a world that has now allowed a whole raft of different ways for people to consume their media, not just sitting down and watching beautiful, delicious TV but also bite-sized chunks of media in whatever form many, many times a day, and obviously given our subject being motoring, which is incredibly broad and exciting, especially right now, we figured, well, it’s time to do this, it’s not been done, let’s do it, let’s do it first and let’s do it really, really well: pull the whole subject together for a whole bunch of people all over the world.”

“We are very excited just to get to grips with this thing. We can’t wait to see it,” he said. “It presents an opportunity to get to a whole lot of people about a subject about which we are incredibly passionate, occasionally knowledgeable, and often quite stupid. Everything we’ve learned about it means we have the opportunity to connect with people many times and in many different ways.”

Just as the old TG appealed to all types of people, the new platform would be for everybody, young and old, male and female. The launch of this ambitious project will take place around the same time with the debut of the new Amazon show in autumn.

“Gamers have got Twitch, travelers have got TripAdvisor and fashion fans have got, oh, something or other too", said Hammond. "But people who are into cars have got nowhere. There’s no grand-scale online motoring community where people can meet and share video, comments, information and opinion. DriveTribe will change that. And then some.”

“This is pure digital exclusivity", May added. "Some of the world’s most endangered tribes — Volvo enthusiasts, for example — will now have a voice as loud as everyone else’s.”

Clarkson's comment was laconic: “I didn’t understand DriveTribe until Richard Hammond said it was like YouPorn, only with cars.” Throwing all pretension of civility out of the window once again that JC, isn't he?

Jeremy Clarkson reveals name of new Amazon Prime show

Quote:
Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond have released the name of their new show, after considering suggestions from fans.

One such suggestion by the former Top Gear presenter was 'Gear Knobs' - but the lawyers said this was 'unwise' due to trademarking issues.

The new show, which will be streamed on Amazon Prime, is to be called 'The Grand Tour' according to a statement from the presenters.
According to a press release, here is how the conversation between the presenters went.
"Thing is," said Jeremy Clarkson, "We'll be travelling the world hosting each episode in a different country, from a giant tent. It's a sort of 'grand tour', if you like. So we've decided to call it 'The Grand Tour’."

The name may seem bland and pun-less because they found it hard to find one the lawyers agreed with.

It's a nice name. The studio will be on a grand tour across the globe.

And we can call it GT for short.

Nice name indeed! But is that just a coincidence that TG became GT?

The Grand Tour, not a 'motory' name but has a nice vibe to it. The short form makes up for it though, The GT! Me likey!!!

My sixth sense tells me BBC might indulge in mind games when The GT is out, like accusing Amazon for "stealing" their ideas. I am also looking forward for the new Top Gear and going by the teasers, doesn't seem very appealing. Comparisons to the TG trio will be inevitable.

End of the day, it is a win-win for us viewers!!!

Drive Tribe will be like our Team Bhp?

The Grand Tour's First Stop Will Be Johannesburg

The very first episode will be recorded in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 17th of July, in front of a live audience housed within a giant tent (as the crew previously explained the concept behind the new show).

Seems to have a distinctive 80s logo feel to it. Somehow reminds me of the Ferrari Testarossa

This fella Oisin was on 6 months holiday on full pay from the BBC. On top of that he got his settlement in the "low 6 figures" - thats a lot of money indeed.

So whats his grouse then? He got away with a split lip and some good bucks!

Id say all this stupid political correctness is the root cause. In the old days a simple punch up wouldn't have elicited so much squealing like it does now!

So True. But, its a bit cluttered in its current form though. Not clean like that Ferrari.

I would have preferred all that text to be placed outside. A crude attempt below.

This is more to set a precedent to avoid such behavior from becoming common place. In a corporate environment, you cant go beat up a tea vendor for selling cold tea. You need to work through the appropriate channels to ensure remedial action.

Actually, you shouldn't beat up a tea vendor for selling cold tea in any environment. In fact I would say you shouldn't beat up anybody anywhere anytime for not doing their job.

Jeremy Clarkson Teases "Weird Comparison Test" Between RR Dawn, DB11 & Hellcat

Quote:
Clarkson already mentioned that the comparison test is weird so he probably doesn't expect anybody to troll him about how these cars don't belong next to each other.
