The fifth-generation Land Rover Discovery is set to be unveiled in 2016. The new Discovery will share its aluminium intensive monocoque frame with the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, replacing the T5 ladder-frame chassis of the current model. The new model should subsequently see weight saving benefits as well. The new Discovery will be built alongside the two Range Rovers at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull plant.

Spotted testing in China.

The new Discovery will be launched late this year. It will be made in England and in China by the Chery-JLR joint venture.

Design of the new Discovery is derived from the 2014 Land Rover Discovery Concept. Bumper of the test car looks almost 100% similar, including the vertical air inlets on each side.

The new Discovery is based on the PLA (Premium Lightweight Architecture) platform. Internationally the Discovery will be available with 2.0 turbo petrol, a 2.0 turbo diesel, and a supercharged V6 petrol. China will do without the diesel.

Overall, the production version will be very similar to the concept from two years ago, sans the suicide doors and the side cameras which will be replaced by a pair of massive conventional mirrors

While the dashboard was masked to hide its design, it’s going to be slightly different than what the Discovery Sport has, and will actually have more in common with the plushier Range Rover

I think this UGLY car has been selling here in UK for some time. My friend had bought one three weeks ago had just 200 miles on it and it got stolen. But i feel Discovery has lost it soul.

I guess you are talking about Discovery Sport and not the Discovery mentioned here, it is yet to be launched.

I don't know about others but for some freakish reason I am finding the silhouette of this car to be very similar to that of a XUV!!!

My Mistake, it would be Discovery Sport then, cause it looks exactly like the orange one in the photos above, BUT still it is not a good looking vehicle to my eyes.

Land Rover will take the wraps off it's new Discovery SUV on 28th September.

Along with all the bells and whistles the car will come with, is one particular technology which could very well be a World First feature - Intelligent Seat Folding.

The system allows Discovery owners to configure their vehicle seating through the InControl Remote app on their smartphone from anywhere in the world - even in mid-air.

The world-first Intelligent Seat Fold technology allows the two rear rows of seats to be fully reconfigured in as little as 14 seconds via the InControl Remote app downloaded on any iOS or Android operating system.

Alex Heslop, Land Rover’s chief engineer for Discovery, said: “This unique feature sets the New Discovery apart from any other vehicle. The fact that owners can change the seating while doing things like queuing with their shopping is a true milestone in convenience delivered through technological innovation.”

The Intelligent Seat Fold technology can be activated in four different ways, including the remote function tried and tested by Bear Grylls. Closer to the ground, switches within the luggage area and on the C-pillar allow the seats to be moved or folded while standing beside the vehicle. Row two and three seats can also be raised and lowered using the main touchscreen display on the dashboard.

Land Rover’s InControl Remote app allows customers using both iOS and Android smartphones to connect with New Discovery from anywhere in the world, making it possible to perform a variety of functions. From confirming all the windows are closed or checking the fuel level to setting the air conditioning or monitoring its location, the advanced technology brings new levels of customer convenience and connectivity to the premium SUV market.

That rear looks a bit odd with the registration plate shifted to the side. It would have been okay if its was a square box.



The CG images look a little odd for machine like the Discovery.



The interiors look good.




And properly capable off road.


With the optional $1,500 air suspension, the numbers are:
34 degree approach angle
27.5 degree break-over angle
30 degree departure angle,
282 mm between the belly and the ground
890 mm of water fording

That's totally insane for a SUV this big!
