re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

Wow, what a quantum change between what we've seen in post #17 to this which just looks like a facelift. I wish they at least made it similar to the concept. Among other things Fiat should update their engines and put the new engines into their own cars only and not give them to the competition to improve their brand value.

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

The X6H is now caught on Video. To debut in 2017 this will be replacement to the ageing Punto.

The new line of Fiat will still have a truck (X6P) that will be manufactured in Betim (MG) and a sedan (X6S - Linea) that will be produced in Argentina.

Quote:
Both models will be built on top of the platform used for the current generation of 326 Palio and Grand Siena. The architecture has been modernized and stretched to give from larger models. The projects will use the same light weight structure used by the Jeep Renegade and by Fiat Toro.

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

Next Gen Punto's future is uncertain. Tipo Hatch could be its replacement at least in Europe.

Brazil and India could continue with the X6H project.

Quote:
The head of the FCA said that the company made a big mistake because the market has changed, claiming that the continuation of the project is not feasible for the time being. With the presence of the Fiat Tipo hatch, which has competitive pricing, have a new Punto would not make sense in the European market.
Quote:
In Brazil, the X6H Project is running and should succeed the Punto. In India, the compact Fiat's future is still uncertain. Anyway, both could continue manufacturing the model, even if it has left Europe,

The X6H have electric steering, start-stop system, traction and stability controls (ESP) and six-speed automatic transmission – when equipped with the 1.8 engine E-TorQ. There will also be 1.6 and 1.4 versions, the latter with the new engine of the GSE family, which will replace the current 1.4 Fire and have power at House of 100 HP.
Remember the X6H will spin off the Linea replacement code named X6S . Both these products could be of interest to India.

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

Fiat has been living with 2 models in different avatars from 2009 to 2016 that is for the past 7 years exist in a country like india. Many of their dealerships have closed down as no new models have been introduced. All they could do was to introduce the 2009 model renamed as pure in 2016 and launching it at the auto expo making a joker out of themselves. By the time they launch these they will not have dealerships to sell them. Fiat is cash rich by selling engines and they are least bothered selling cars.

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

Fiat's replacement to the Palio and Punto in Brazil is the Project X6H.

Here is the X6H ( rendered) as close as it gets to reality.

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

@volkman

I have no idea how accurate this rendering is in its details and overall composition but it's clear that they're 'quoting' or 'citing', stylistically, several new FIAT brand models, as also sharing-parts?

Rear tail-lamps and sculpted hatchdoor: Alfa Romeo Giulietta
Front Heandlamps-integrated-into-grill: FIAT Tipo/Aegea
Dashboard+steering wheel: Jeep Renegade+Compass+Fiat Toro pickup+Fiat Tipo.

Nice enough, if a tad safe: not-quite-fully 'italianate'?

The 'new Punto' will apparently be a bit wider than the current one, and with a longer wheelbase+shorter front overhang, plus the all-new Firefly petrol engine family, plus lightened and strengthened.

imo chances of it getting launched, localized, in India are dim, since i fear the FIAT brand has too much legacy-baggage now?

What India will get, instead, will be a JEEP b-suv (Renagade-like, rhd emerging-markets/Asia-Pac special) based very clsoely off it.

Whether India also gets the 'new Avventura' b-cuv avatar (same platform, very similar architecture, different styling) of the new Punto, alongwith the JEEP one, remains to be seen, but i am doubtful. Maybe if they can find export volumes for the Fiat cuv-avatar and not just for the Jeep one? At any rate, it's difficult to see the 'new Punto rhd' getting exported in meaningful numbers, thus making the business case for it imo pretty risky and dubious, unfortunately? But who knows: maybe even back to europe or rather the uk+japan, like say the Ford Figo/Ka or the MarutiS Baleno?

Doubtful, though, since it probably doesn't quite fit the European portfolio, given the new and rather inexpensive Tipo's there already? And the india-made Jeep 'new Punto'-derivative-avatar would immediately fit-into rhd markets like the uk, japan, australia, some countries in se asia, etc, so much better, and so much more profitably?

Perhaps only if TATA Motors and Fiat share the platform, assembly lines, powertrains, suppliers etc for next-gen Tata Bolt+Zest/whatever, then the business case for an Indian launch of the 'new Punto' becomes more plausible?

Fiat as of now has no plans of bringing the 'X6H' to India. They may skip the lower segment and concentrate on JEEP from the B- SUV on-wards.
