re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

Fiat India is running in 'skeleton' staff mode, X6H and S is strictly for 'window shopping' only for Indians, I guess! They'll be concentrating on the Jeep brand. Nothing short of a miracle can save FIAT India: great products and worst management. If someone really steers FIAT India to a success, he'd be called an Indian Iacocca.

I think even an average business mind can steer Fiat in the right direction, lets look at what their current business model has been in India :

1) Unveil a "new" car on average once every 2 decades.
2) Update//facelift the model after a decade.
3) License their patented engine design to other manufacturers and earn royalty from each sale. Leverage production by sharing facilities with TATA.

The above method works, obviously, in the revenue thread Fiat seems to earn close to 10% profit, much higher than other brands who do so much of hard work of marketing, appointing brand ambassadors, awareness camps etc etc. Fiat does NONE of it, saves money and gets the bottomline.

Now if they were to indeed care about higher sales are lower margins they'd have to :

1) Break the 4th dimension, warp reality and *gasp* introduce updated, post-2010 models and engines to India.
2) Open more service stations and dealerships (there will be a healthy % of them exiting each month so they need to be more on their toes).
3) More marketing - that means television ads, paper ads, awareness campaigns and making the brand relevant again, needs a big budget (100+ crores)
4) STAY PUT.

These strategies may help them boost sales but their profitability percentages will look more like Fords - minus 6% as compared to the plus 10% of today. I think the Agnelli family are happy to push back into their chairs and smoke cigars, seeing what India is in terms of revenue for them.

re: Fiat begins testing the next-generation Punto. EDIT: Named Argo

This is not an Euro NCAP test nor remotely related.

Test drive car, FIAT ARGO takes on Toyota Corolla head-on.

Quote:
Both drivers suffered injuries without gravity, being that the driver of the Corolla came to be trapped in the wreckage, being rescued by the fire department. Both were taken to medical and dismissed.

Search for interior pics of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and you'll see...

P.S: With sales dwindling across the board, Fiat India needs to be revamp their portfolio in India, in a hurry !

Cheers !
