That's a bummer. Why would they do this? Isn't it more likely that individual buyers may be more open to buying EVs with issues like range limitations et al?

Tesla launched new supercharger V3 (version 3) with 1,000 mph charging and better efficiency. For long range Model 3, Supercharger V3 can add up to 75 miles of range in 5 minutes and charge at a peak rage of 1,000 miles per hour of range. Tesla is also updating existing V2 superchargers with higher charging capacity.

The Union government has made changes to the law in order to allow people to convert conventional vehicles into electric vehicles or hybrids, a decision that officials said could help fight air pollution.

4WD is a given since an EV has motors on all four wheels.

Honda India will go the Hybrid route , EV's to come in later.

- Will launch a hybrid vehicle in three years.

There are three conditions (for electric vehicles to be successful).

One is from the manufacturer’s point of view — we have to guarantee appropriate ride distance. The range issue is not only for the manufacturer (to address), we also need help from battery capacity.

The second condition is infrastructure. To charge the battery, we need charging stations. So, if there is the same number as gasoline stations, if there are sufficient charging stations, then it will be okay.

And third, and this is the most important point, is price. If pricing for the customer is affordable, then okay.

But they (e-vehicles) will take time. So till then, hybrid is the one solution. Because hybrid doesn’t need charging stations, infrastructure; range is okay.

Honda India as usual will always be late in Indian market. Hybrids in 2019 itself are becoming a rare commodity but after 3 years they will be extinct. Indian(Mahindra, Tata), Korean (Hyundai/Kia) and Chinese companies will release fully-electric cars in India before Honda brings their hybrids in 3 years.

Major Japanese companies (Toyota, Honda, Mazda) are reluctant to make EVs even in 2019 despite ICE (pterol/diesel) sales are going down and EV sales are growing at rapid pace.

Volkswagen to launch 70 new EV models in next 10 years

The Volkswagen Group is planning to launch almost 70 new electric models in the next ten years – instead of the 50 previously planned. As a result, the projected number of vehicles to be built on the Group’s electric platforms in the next decade will increase from 15 million to 22 million.

The Volkswagen Group has set milestones in all areas to be achieved in the coming years on the road to complete decarbonisation by 2050.

Three-pronged strategy

• First, effective and sustainable CO2 reduction.
• Second, switch to renewable energy sources for power supply.
• Third, compensate for remaining emissions that cannot be avoided.

Dr. Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen AG, said: “Volkswagen is taking on responsibility with regard to the key trends of the future – particularly in connection with climate protection. The targets of the Paris Agreement are our yardstick. We will be systematically aligning production and other stages in the value chain to CO2 neutrality in the coming years. That is how we will be making our contribution towards limiting global warming.

• 2025 target to reduce the CO2 footprint of the vehicle fleet by 30 percent compared to 2015.
• LG Chem, SKI, CATL and Samsung were selected as strategic battery cell suppliers.
• Volkswagen will be installing 400 fast-charging stations along Europe's major roads and highways by 2020 in collaboration with industry partners in IONITY.
• Maximum Sharing of MEB platform with other manufacturers to lower costs.

Absolutely essential change, and one that could push adoption up significantly. Conversions are easier and significantly cheaper - potentially you could convert your existing vehicle @ under 1/3rd the price of a new electric vehicle. That’s for a proper conversion designed for the doner vehicle. Fly-by-night jugaad conversions will cost significantly lower, but will be of dubious quality.
