Why should I care about a hot Mustang?

The new Ford Shelby GT500!
A 5.4-litre engine under the 'hood'. Good for between 475 or 500bhp depending on who you talk to, and hits 96km/h in 4.5 seconds!

Costs 19.3 lakhs in the US ($43,000 - which also means its 'easier' to import as its above $40,000, but its a LHD!!!!!)

Easier way:

Import 2nd hand Holden Commodore V8 from Australia (RHD) - Rs.8-9 lakhs + Duty (2nd hand and therefore negotiable).

Invest about Rs.1.5 lakhs in headers, freeflow, performance valvetrain, cold air intake, 2.5 lakhs if you want to throw in a bolt-on supercharger. Alternatively, get the engine reworked to about 1000 bhp for about Rs.10 lakhs.

Get similar performance from a car that doesnt look like it has sporting pretentions (remove spoiler and skirts).

Look normal, drive red-hot.

Look normal, drive red-hot. - YEAH. Been a fan of Holdens for a long long time...

OT : i believe the import duties on a 2nd hand is more than that on a new one

Or you could consider the 'Vette also? Not much more in price than the GT500. American cars have always offered a lot bang-for-the-buck.

Yes but on the new import the import duty is on invoice value, and that too based on the invoice of the authorized distributor of that brand.

On 2nd hand the import duty is on ASSESSED value - and therein lies the difference.

The do offer lot of bang for the buck, but the sad part is they go bang sooner. Remember JCs GT?

And the fact that not too many of them know how to handle. Straight line acceleration...yes. But not too much around the curves.

@tsk: i dont think americans go wrong that much. considering the quality being offered my the germans, those are the ones that bang a lot more.
also, JC's GT wasnt bad. the security system was the culprit, not the car.

aaahhh...I hope that was meant for the stang..cuz it aint true for the vette/viper/FGT what so ever and as for quality, surely its a little less, well a little more than little less but damn what fun!!

as for things going bad, well american cars per say have been scoring better than germans..but i would still take my chances with the germans on any luxury car but for a sports car I wouldnt mind trying the americans

yes cost = 9.5k quid, so about 18k USD, so a 45k cr + 18k + 50k duty + tax title etc, about 125k, so you looking @ a little under 60 lakhs for the car on road in india..
