Thank you for the link volkman.

I was contemplating about buying a MY7.5 and MK8 for almost a year and i am glad that i bought a MK7.5 recently. Having owned two MK7s, i prefer looks of MK7 over MK8. I think it would take some time to get used to MK8 looks.

Re: The 2018 Volkswagen Golf Mk8

Volkswagen does a recap of the GOLF lineage,

VW Golf Mk6 Timeline:

2008: Adaptive Cruise Control, Hill Start Assist, Dynamic cornering light, Adaptive chassis control
2009: Fourth Golf Variant
2009: Sixth Golf GTI
2009: Comeback of the Golf GTD
2010: Third Golf R
2010: New Cross Golf edition
2011: Fourth Golf Cabriolet
2011: Golf GTI Edition 35
2012: Production phased out after 2.85 million Golf Mk6 vehicles, launch of the Golf Mk7

The 2018 Volkswagen Golf Mk8-0a1b349avwgolfmk6.jpg

Looking back at its sixth generation, which was produced between 2008 and 2012. The sixth-gen Golf earn the ‘World Car of the Year’ award in 2009.

- The Golf nameplate is a proud member of the Volkswagen Holy Trinity, alongside the now-defunct Beetle and the Passat

- Golf sold over 35 million units since the first one rolled off the assembly lines in 1974, 26 million of which made in Wolfsburg.

- In Wolfsburg alone, nearly an army division's worth of workers, 8,400 people, are involved with the Golf production lines.

-The new car is made up of 2,700 individual components

- From the moment the first such component is produced and until the car rolls off the assembly line in perfect working order, a brand new Golf would already have covered 69 km on the production lines (42 miles).

-There is a total of 962 wiring systems in the new Golf that, if spread head-to-head, would cover 1.34 km (0.83 miles)

-For reference, explains Volkswagen, that’s 31 wiring systems and nearly 100 meters more (328 feet) than in the previous generation

-Volkswagen Group's MQB architecture helped the automaker to keep down production costs and reduce manufacturing time for the new Golf compact car

-The platform, which will underpin 50 million vehicles from VW Group brands over the new, second generation, helped the automaker to keep a tight lid on costs

-The current Golf marked the switch to MQB from the previous PQ35 platform that only underpinned compact cars.

-As a result of the new car utilizing the same modular architecture, and only needed to replace about 20 percent of the equipment needed to build the body, largely tools to make design-specific parts like side paneling.

-Production will be also centered now in Wolfsburg, Germany, which has an installed capacity of 450,000 units across all Golf derivatives.

-About 8,400 employees will build the latest Golf at the brand's main German factory using roughly 2,700 individual parts

-Golf sales in Europe fell by 14 percent in the first eight months to 281,871 vehicles, according to JATO Dynamics market researchers. The Golf's closest competitor in the volume compact segment was the Skoda Octavia, whose volume was flat at 156,422 units, followed by the Ford Focus, whose sales rose 14 percent to 155,686.

Re: The 2018 Volkswagen Golf Mk8

Such an understated yet gorgeous car. I really do wish that VW would release the Golf In India. I for one would line up with my chequebook as soon as they do so. Stunning clean lines, sumptuous interiors and proven solid mechanical package. Cannot see one damn reason why it wouldn't be a great product to have in one's garage.

As usual, price considerations for the Indian market stalls yet another stellar product from making its appearance in our country.

While a fully electric powertrain won’t be fitted to the Golf - the zero-emission status will be reserved to the ID family - hybrid tech will feature strongly. A 48-volt electrical system recovers energy that would otherwise be wasted when slowing down, redeploying up to 16bhp and 25nm of electric boost under acceleration. In particular, VW says that this will make moving away from standstill much smoother.

The mild-hybrid system, combined with a seven-speed auto gearbox, is available with both versions of the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol (making 128 and 148bhp respectively) and the 109bhp version of a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo. The entry-level 89bhp 1.0 TSI and models with a manual gearbox don’t get the mild-hybrid tech, but a new six-speed unit is said to contribute to a drop in emissions.
Two 2.0-litre diesels available with 113bhp or 148bhp can be paired with both manual and auto ‘boxes. Both are claimed to produce 17 per cent less CO2 than before, while a new AdBlue delivery system cuts nitrogen oxide emissions by 80 per cent. Mild hybrid systems will eventually find their way onto these diesel powertrains, too.

From launch, the hottest Golf will be the GTE. As before, this runs a plug-in hybrid system with a 148bhp 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, but the electric motor is significantly more powerful, so the overall output now stands at 242bhp - the same as the outgoing Golf GTI Performance. Battery capacity is up, too: the 13kWh item allows for a 43-mile zero-emissions range, at speeds up to 87mph. The battery is more energy-dense than in the previous generation GTE, which means that despite a 50 per cent increase in capacity, it’s only fractionally larger overall.

Volkswagen has confirmed that hot models like the GTI and R will follow. While details have not yet been confirmed, Volkswagen states that top Golfs will offer more than the 296bhp figure produced by the current Golf R

Re: The 2018 Volkswagen Golf Mk8

The "clean and timeless" brigade are absolutely crying, I, on the other hand am kinda liking this design.. some interesting curves and lines at laaasttt.

A bit too much BMWish, but looks cool nonetheless, specially after their boxy, boring, put you to sleep designs for the past few years (Winterkorn regime).

VW is on the right path.. time to put a few more curves and roundness in due course. The timeless gimmickry resulted in some of the worst designs ever.

As with previous GTI models, the new one will receive a unique front and rear bumper, larger air intakes, a spoiler, sportier wheels, better tires, and the familiar dual-exit exhaust. VW will offer the next-gen GTI in only the five-door hatchback design.
Quote:
The next GTI will feature a new digital cockpit – a head-up display is optional – new switchgear, a new center console, and a T-shaped shift lever.
Quote:
Power train will consist of an updated version of the EA888 turbocharged 2.0-liter offered in the current Mk VII Golf GTI.
The mill will have two outputs – 255 horsepower (190 kilowatts) and 295 hp (219 kW). The more potent mill is reserved for the GTI TCR, which will replace the GTI Performance trim. Gearbox choices stay the same – either a six-speed manual or seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic.
