A near production ready T Cross on test, to be unveiled later this year and for sale in 2019 in most markets. The smallest CUV currently from VW is likely to carry the power-train from Polo.

For India this will be the first of the Groups products due for 2020/21 majorly based on the MQB A0 platform and desinagnated as the MQB A0 -IN platform

I was barely able to get a glimpse of the sketch in between the number of poses given by the two gentlemen

But, I am not in favor of a 4.1m length. In terms of rear space and boot space, it will be neither here not there. It should be either 4m or 4.3m.

T Cross for India (& S America) are likely to be a LWB model.

The T-Cross is designed to compete with that and will have a longer wheelbase for the Indian market. In addition, Volkswagen is having Skoda work on the affordability of MQB A0 crossovers.

T Cross testing at the Nurburgring circle. Focus is on Indian and S American markets. Will go on sale next Spring (Except in India, which will be a year later)

VW T CROSS - Prototype Drive review,

The front-wheel-drive is a bit longer than a Polo, at 4,107mm. It’s also 110mm higher, and the driving position has been raised by 100mm, too. As a result, it’s considerably bigger than a Polo in every direction, despite featuring an identical wheelbase.

There will be three engine choices initially: two three-cylinder 1.0-litre petrols and one diesel. The first TSI motor gets 94bhp and 160Nm of torque, linked to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The second petrol bumps things up with 113bhp/200Nm and a six-speed transmission, while the single 1.6 TDI boasts 94bhp and 250Nm, plus a six-speed box.

Climb aboard and the first thing you notice is the loftier driving position and the T-Roc-like new dash design. The dashboard plastics are harder than in a Polo, but the eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system looks great.

Performance from the turbocharged engine is decent rather than sparkling, but refinement is still impressive. There was a little more wind noise than we expected around the A-pillars on these pre-production cars, however.

On the move the T-Cross rides extremely well and steers with a light, accurate precision. It doesn’t roll as much as you’d think for a car so tall, and again its chassis has a grown-up refinement to it that belies the small SUV’s price tag. The T-Cross seems to drive more than well enough for a car in this class, then, even if it is never going to excite an enthusiast.

VW's small CUV will not be sold in US / Canada, considers it too small for those markets.

Arriving in Europe this year will later see markets like S America, China with the Final destination being India.

Based on the MQB A0 architecture, the T-Cross is intended to offer the maximum amount of rear legroom and trunk space in a small package.

This very much looks like the Skoda Polar which was showcased a year back. I think this might be launched with the 1.0 TSI in India.
1.4 TSI will more suit this car but not sure if VW will offer the 1.4 TSI in India

16L on-road for this in decently equipped configuration with a reasonable powerful engine in 2020/21 would be great thank you VW

Looks like I found my next upgrade ��
But this won't be under 18 lacs if launched in 2020. Just do the math on inflation and you'd realize even the Creta will be about 20.
Powertrains will be a big problem. I'd love to have the 1.4 tsi, but if wishes were horses!
I'm guessing this will sit between the Creta and the Compass with top and mid variants seriously overlapping either of them.
Compass will go well beyond reach on its BS6 compliant diesel and so would Creta.

Looks like VW recruited some Korean engineers in the design team of this car. It definitely does not stay true to VW's aesthetic sense. I had high hopes when I read 'Polo-based' in the headline.
