After arriving in neighboring countries such as Argentina and Colombia, the Volkswagen T-Cross produced in Brazil will soon go to another important international destination: Mexico.

As announced by the brand, the sending of specimens manufactured in São José dos Pinhais (PR) to the Mexican concessionaires will be initiated this month and should reach the figure of 6,000 units by the end of the year.

It is a shame India production capability for T Cross is taking so long. Most of the Ventos in Mexico were supplied from India - It is a very popular model there in the 1.6 NA petrol Automatic guise and I have seen tons of them on the road there. We could have repeated this success story with T across, if only VW has been more pro-active in building manufacturing capability for the MQB platform and building a supplier ecosystem around this platform - the platform has been around since early 2013. They dili-dallied so much and finally the platform manufacturing is still not here in India even 7 years after its global launch and will still not be here for another 2 years. By then, MQB will become last-gen and VW will be caught in the spiral of platform obsolescence again.

VW's most expensive and least popular diesel T Cross reviewed.

Its power output ( 93 bhp) is the same as that of the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol, but of course there’s plenty more torque, namely 184lb ft, rather than 129lb ft, and this peak emerges 500rpm earlier, at 1500rpm.

The 1.6 TDI is the most expensive engine option, but it also provides the lowest CO2 rating in the range at 140g/km on the WLTP testing regime.

It's impressively quiet. You barely hear any combustion clatter either at idle or when revving this engine, which issues a smooth tenor hum that’s not unpleasant and pleasingly unobtrusive.

That’s a good start, and so is the way this Volkswagen moves down the road, its suspension delivering a fine mix of roll control and absorbency. It’s quite firm but well damped, with body control over undulating B-roads impressive. It’s no high-riding sports hatch (the somewhat inert handling and dulled steering feel soon kill that thought), but there’s real polish to its competence.

These thoughts will strike you less swiftly than the T-Cross’s gearing, however, which is on the giraffe side of long-legged when you hit fourth. At 30mph, it will be revving just the wrong side of 1500rpm, and you’ll be reaching for third if the needle falls much below this, especially if there’s more than just you on board

Manual is the choice:

If the manual’s gearing puts you off, there’s always the DSG, which saves you exercising your left arm and leg. But as is so often the case with generously ratioed automatics, you’ll need to select Sport mode, paddle and act profligately with the throttle to get this T-Cross to travel briskly. Once you’re used to it, the manual is more effective, and Volkswagen reckons it will be the more popular choice.

Though Skoda Kamiq is reviewed as a better buy than T Cross, the OCT-19 sales in EU tells a different story!

Though late into the SUV/CUV market, the VAG group makes a clean sweep in EU Compact sales,

Interesting thing is they have put out the 0-100 number as 9.9 seconds! This is faster than the fastest European version in the reviews above.

My guess is that means we are getting the higher tune of 115 PS, plus, due to the lighter weight of the MQB-A0-IN platform the same engine is quicker on the Indian car. This should be a cracker to drive. Going by the initial price estimates 1 6 speed manual decently equipped Comfortline trim may be possible under 10 lakhs ex-showroom.

I feel sorry, this is business VW India should have got, if only VW had not been so slow about building its MQB capability in India. All the Ventos one sees today in Mexico (and there really are many), all come from India's VW factory. I doubt we will keep that business with most VW markets switching to MQB compact sedans. So with MQB-A0-IN the Indian Manufacturing Capability will become India-for-India and lose the ability to export to most other markets, because MQB-A0-IN is an India specific lower cost platform with some elements substituted or removed from the Global Models.

Re-styled T Cross revealed, adopts renewed design and more refined interior.

Restyling of the compact SUV gains illuminated grille of the Taos, but will only come to Brazil next year.

The first change in the Volkswagen T-Cross 2024 for Europe is in the bumper. It lost the rubberized part that connected the two fog lights and the gray trapeze that divided the body and the lower grille. In place will be the body in the color of the vehicle, forming an "X" between the upper grille and the fog lights. The lower air intake will be much larger, causing the nameplate to be positioned higher up. Finally, it has a gray bar at the bottom end.

Further up is the grid, keeping the shape of the previous model. One of the differences for the national T-Cross is the internal design, with small buds, while the Brazilian has chrome lines. The European version already had a gray bar in the middle of the grille, only now it is illuminated as in the Taos, aligned with the LED Matrix headlights in the set that the company calls IQ. Light – however, it will only be available in the most expensive versions, there called Style and R-Line. Closing the changes in front are the fog lights, now in the form of a vertical line.

Unlike what did not happen with the restyled Polo, the T-Cross brings a more refined finish, adopting soft materials on the panel and, in the more expensive versions, with imitation stitching. This eliminates that design with a central bar shared with Polo and Virtus. This same material is in the door panels. The multimedia center will no longer be sunk into the console, gaining a new housing to make it stand out.

It will come standard with the 8-inch digital instrument cluster, swapping for a 10-inch in the more expensive versions, while the multimedia center is 8-inch in the input configurations and 9.2 inches in the top-of-the-line variants. LED headlights also appear from the cheapest option, but the IQ system. Light LED Matrix is only in Style and R-Line settings.

Some of the novelties for Europe will not be used in Brazil. For example, the European T-Cross has grown by 27 mm, now measuring 4,135 meters, which is still less than the 4,199 of the national model. The reason is quite simple: here, the compact SUV has a wheelbase of 2,651 m, against the 2,563 m of the European.

The engine is also quite different and the only thing in common is the 1.0 turbo three-cylinder, which in Europe will be offered in versions of 95 hp, with 5-speed manual transmission; and 116 hp, the latter with 6 hp more and combined with a 6-position manual transmission – it has a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox as an option.

The 1.4 TSI was replaced by the 1.5 TSI, still with 150 hp, but with more technologies such as active cylinder management and a variable geometry turbo, reducing fuel consumption. In this case, the only exchange option is the 7-position DSG. As the MQB-A0 platform was not developed to receive hybrid versions, the T-Cross follows without electrification, not even a mild-hybrid system.

Volkswagen T-Cross (2024): a light but logical update

the updated T-Cross, and from the outside, the differences are not obvious. However, the interior of the spotlights is new, with LED matrix lighting, adapting the beam continuously (and no longer by notches), being now available. Note also a light strip barring the entire front face, and the shields redesigned, including at the rear.

discover new lights, also LED, which now feature a 3D pattern in the shape of a cross. A reference to the name of the SUV, Cross, cross in French. The effect seemed rather successful, but it is inside that the evolutions are the most striking, like what we had observed with the T-Roc.

Indeed, the dashboard, largely reworked, finally benefits from a cap in pretty foamed plastic, significantly improving the perceived quality, widely criticizable on the outgoing model.

Another novelty on this T-Cross, the rather advanced driving aids. Called Travel Assist3, they support lane keeping and centering, automatic braking depending on traffic (as on the old model) but also signals, turns and even roundabouts. Rare at this level of range.

Under the hood, we find the 3-cylinder 1.0 TSI, in 95 hp and 110 hp, available with the manual gearbox only with small power, the other working exclusively on the DSG7. The same goes for the 1.5 l TSI Evo which arrives in the T-Cross, strong of 150 hp

The restyled T-Cross will be offered in three trim levels, Life, Style and R-Line, all featuring air conditioning, alloy wheels, Travel Assist and Virtual Cockpit as standard. The Style adds Matrix LED lighting, Virtual Cockpit Pro, induction charger, keyless start and rearview camera. As for the R-Line, it offers a sportier presentation.
