Moving up the segment will be Volkswagen's next crossover - T ROC. The T Roc will fall and at a length of 4200mm will take on Renault’s Duster, etc.. The concept was revealed at the Geneva Motor show 2014.It is being developed alongside Audi’s Q2 and based on the Golf and its highly flexible MQB platform the crossover is set to debut in early 2017.

Quote:

Styled under the guidance of Volkswagen brand design boss Klaus Bischoff, the T-Cross is expected to borrow elements from the T-Roc, including its full-width grille, side window graphic and distinctive wheel arches, in a bid to provide the two new SUV models with a common lineage in much the same way as the existing Polo and Golf hatchbacks.
Both the crossovers will come with the choice of petrol, diesel or plug-in petrol-electric hybrid drivetrains, together with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and will complement VW's SUV's in the segment. Higher up -Touareg while Tiguan and its variants will be the lower in the SUV segment.

The upcoming release of the T-Roc and T-Cross SUVs are said to be part of Volkswagen's strategy to fast-track the development of its SUV lineup. The German car manufacturer is hoping to increase its presence in the fast-growing SUV market.

Volkswagen T Cross - A compact crossover based on the Polo. EDIT: Now unveiled-vw_taigun_concept.jpg

I thought the VW Taigun is the compact SUV we know as the Ecosport / Duster rival.

IMO the T Cross SUV will be above the Taigun & below the Tiguan.

:thumbs up

Taigun ( not on MQB PLatform) a concept primarily developed in 2012 for the Brazilian Market. However the changed market dynamics and a length of just 3,859 mm VW considers it to be too small. This could mean that at a later date there could be a Micro CUV - but for now T Cross is speculated to be its replacement.

Quote:

The Taigun only measured 3,859mm long, stretching to 3,995mm with an externally mounted SUV. While India might appreciate such a car, even the South American market has begun to demand slightly larger 4x4s.
VW's line up of S/CUV's ( T- Line) in 2018 will look like,

1. Touareg ( 4801 mm in length)
2. Tiguan and its variants ( 4485 mm)
3. T Roc ( ~4200 mm)
4. T Cross ( ~ 4000 mm )

As the T-Cross is based on the new MQB platform polo, it could be a preview of how the next generation Polo would look. And if this is any indication, it will look good. Typical VW understated design that will age well.

VW sets the tone for its Crossovers to en-cash on its raging demand for sub compact crossovers.

Just having unveiled the T Cross Breeze which sits on a footprint close in size to the VW Polo subcompact car and would be the smallest entry in VW's coming lineup of five crossovers, whose roll out begins with the redesigned Tiguan compact crossover launching in Europe this spring.

A production T-Cross would slot below the subcompact crossover based on the T-Roc concept shown at the 2014 Geneva show that VW is expected to launch in 2018. There it will join the long-wheelbase Tiguan and the still-unnamed midsize crossover launching next year.

the Golf 3-door was the first MQB production car... ever. It's fitting that it serves as the underpinnings for the "Polo SUV," a subcompact crossover that doesn't have a proper name but does have a preview concept.
Quote:

the MQB platform is that it defines modularity. Nearly everything can be changed, including the wheelbase and overhangs. The only thing that stays the same is the distance between the firewall and the front axle
The compact will be based on Audi's Q2 and will extend beyond 4 m in length.
