Say hello to the new Bentley Continental GT

Bentley says it’s about 176 pounds lighter than the equivalent outgoing car because of greater use of lighter and stronger materials. The panels for the fenders, for example, are now shaped with a process called Super Formed to heat the aluminum to 500 degrees Celsius in order to get the dramatic curves seen here – a first for a production car, the company says.

Bentley is promoting a more sophisticated suspension control system to give both a soft ride when desired, or keep the handling in check if you decide to use all of the 626 horsepower and 207 mph top speed that the 6.0-liter turbocharged 12-cylinder engine offers.

Called Bentley Dynamic Ride, it uses a 48-volt system to adjust electronic actuators front and rear and keep the car from leaning too much in corners, while still offering the ability to set the ride to a comfortable setting with the air suspension.

Bentley says each Continental GT uses more than 107 square feet of real wood inside, along with vast amounts of leathers and metals, but this was never going to be a car for those concerned with the earth’s diminishing resources.

While they've definitely kept the look of the production car close to the EXP-Speed-10 concept, I don't quite rate it. Sure it looks so very sinewy almost, but it also looks a bit squat, squashed even. It's like a body builder doing that pained pose to me.

All that being said, what I really want to know is if they actually have gone for a toblerone to achieve the watch, satnav screen, wood panel trifecta in the dashboard!

Bentley has revealed full details of the third-generation Continental GT. The car will be displayed at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017.

The new Continental GT's design is inspired by the EXP 10 Speed 6 concept car. It retains its predecessor's classic shape. However, the lines and creases on the body are sharper.

The front bumper features a redesigned air dam. The bonnet has been slightly elongated and meets the grille at the top. The headlamps feature matrix LED lamps and cut-crystal glasses. At the rear, the tail-lamps have been redesigned and now have a more elliptical shape, similar to the exhaust vents located below.

The new Continental GT is more than 80 kg lighter than the outgoing model. It shares the underpinnings with the new Porsche Panamera. While the overall length of the car has been kept the same as the old car, the front wheels have been moved 135 mm forward. The longer wheelbase results in a shorter front overhang.

On the inside, the instrument panel gets a fully configurable digital display that is made to look like actual dials. The display can show information from the infotainment system including the map, music and phone. The central part of the dashboard gets a three-sided rotating panel that has a flat veneer side, analogue dials and a 12.3-inch, high-resolution touchscreen. When the car is parked, it appears that there is no screen on dashboard. However, once the engine start button is pressed, the rotating panel flips to the touchscreen. The third side holds three dials - a compass, outside temperature gauge and a clock. Bentley claims that lengthening the wheelbase has improved the vehicle's interior space.

The Bentley Continental GT is powered by a 6-litre, W12 turbocharged petrol engine that puts out 626 BHP and 900 Nm of torque. The company claims that the car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 333 km/h. It is coupled with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The engine also features cylinder deactivation, where it shuts down up to half the cylinders. This is claimed to result in lower fuel consumption. The car also features an all-wheel drive system that sends power to the front wheels as and when needed.

The new Continental GT features predefined drive modes - Comfort, Bentley or Sports, which alter the engine, suspension, transmission and other aspects. The driver can also customise the settings according to his/her requirement.

The Bentley Continental GT will be offered with a choice of 17 colours with 70 shades, 15 carpets, 8 veneer patterns and 15 interior trims. Customers can also customise their cars according to their requirements.

Looks Amazing.
Mercedes has done such a good job with the S Class's interior that one has to compare a Bentley with it !! The Bentley should ideally be a class above.
I see lots of design cues from the S in the interior

Wow. I really want to see this rotating screen in action.
It sounds right out of a James Bond Movie, except for the fact that Mr Bond prefers Aston Martins.

On a side note, they could have done a bit more to reduce the weight, at 2200 Kgs+ it is still porky.

Hmmm. This is the first time I've seen a vertically mounted compass!

Guess it's a digital compass (magnetometer) that's being displayed on an analogue dial.

Would be cool if the needle always pointed forwards and the dial rotated. Is that the case?

It's a pity about that green. But then, everything will be customisable on that car, so I'll be able to choose a different colour for mine

Now that's how you ruin a car that is otherwise a sight for the eyes.

Mansory should re check the CV of its product lead designer or whoever said 'A OK' to that green.

Lots of people have bad taste. Wealthy people are able to materialise it as a Bentley. I don't think Bentley/Mansory would impose taste censorship on something like that.

You have that much money to spend? You get what you want! I'm never going to buying like that, but... I'm sort-of glad that it is possible!

Money and taste are seldom known to be companions.

I am glad I dont have anything remotely close to that kind of money that enables someone to indulge in such monstrosity.

This is indeed someones car they are showcasing.

Also, the market for these cars includes the royalty and super-rich of different countries with very different cultures and definition of good taste.
