Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

The design is terrible, but to be fair, it's designed to compete with American luxury, the likes of the Escalade , Navigator and Expedition , also the upcoming Grand Wagoner. This is par for the course, over the top and gaudy, only thing missing is an ego massage badge like 60i for the 3 litre.

The Range Rover still doesn't have a credible competitor from the German trio.

Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

This is one ugly van/station wagon with a hideous front end. The side profile has an uncanny resemblance to the GLS and the rear is again vanish.

Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

IMHO - It looks like a Merc GLS with a huge kidney griller slapped on the front and a 7 series rear end grafted on the rear.

Add chromies and dark tints and it wll be the No 1 rapper mobile. The Chinese will love it and as also our Indian politicians who was to move from the GLS but cannot afford a Range Rover.

It's too brash for me!

Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

This is an instant hit in India and China, where attention (good or bad) seeking is prominent! However, in Europe and America, I do not feel this one is going to dent the sales of anything from the Range Rover showrooms.

On the topic of the front end gawkiness, well, when the wagonR was launched in the year 2000, it was extremely hated for its odd boxy look. I, in fact, refused to be driven to school in it! But designs grow on us eventually. The same shall happen with the X7 and also the Mercedes GLC.

Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

That kidney grill is just plain hideous. Like seriously, BMW you had such a big canvas to play with and all you do is fill it up with a pair of industrial size cheese graters.
As far as the car is concerned it seems it's a BMW 7 series on stilts. But all these things don't matter.
BMW wanted to be part of the uber cool ultra large SUV brigade and with this they have made a grand entry.

Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

The super sized Radiator Grille looks horrible in terms of design.
Oh for a return to the subtle design cues of the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s.
I really HATE these “In Your Face” BlingBling design cues of today, across all these famous marques.
All this shows how clearly the target segment has changed.
It is no longer about subtle elegance. It is all about showing off.
That also shows the manner of people that are buying these previously unattainable brands - all of this shows the journey of mass commoditisation of these brands!

BMW is the Parent company of Rolls Royce

Looks like it's taking cues from the "Mighty" grills of the Rolls Royce.

Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

So they will be Launching in January as CBU. I understand dealers are taking the orders as well.

Bringing the twin turbo 50-D in M guise is definitely a plus, it does appear that some enthusiast Germans are now managing things now

The inline-six turbocharged diesel makes an impressive 400 hp and even more impressive – 560 lb-ft of torque. This is sufficient to propel BMW’s largest and heaviest SUV to date from 0-62mph in a claimed 5.4sec and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.

Recently got a chance to check the new X5 here in Canada and interiors are at a different level, much plush then outgoing or even 7. There's a nice Reverse assistant which follows your track while reversing and actually works. The suspension was very supple due to Air Suspension.

Wish they had done better aesthetically especially the grills .

Ok, I think I'll change my opinion on this one.

Looks at the ground(sheepishly)

The imposing looks have grown on me.Imagine seeing one approach you swiftly with those demonic looks in your rear view mirror flashing lights for a pass.

Re: BMW greenlights the X7!

Recently was watching the reviews of the RR Cullinan which IMO is the worst looking SUV till date.

And now i suddenly find the BMW X7 to be imposingly beautiful, specially good to see the M50d coming in

Just a small correction i.e. M50d is a QUAD Turbo

Honestly I thought Toyota had the copyright on making ugly SUVs (read Land Cruiser), but clearly there seems to be some competition here
