Ford has developed a brand-new 2.0L advanced diesel engine, called the EcoBlue, which will offer optimised fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 and NOX emissions.

The company claims that this oil-burner powertrain is a game-changer, and will replace the company’s old 2.2-litre TDCi Duratorq engine. The EcoBlue diesel engine will first make its way into the hoods of the brand’s commercial vehicles, and will eventually be introduced in passenger cars at a later date.

Developed from scratch, the EcoBlue engine will be 13% more fuel-efficient than it's predecessor, claims Ford. It will also deliver improved low-end torque due to a more compact turbocharger, which in turn will boost in-city driving. Torque delivery will improve by 20% and will kick in from as low as 1250rpm, according to the American auto giant.

Most importantly, the EcoBlue engine meets the Euro VI emission norm standards which is to be introduced from September 2016 by producing 55% less NOx emissions, compared to Euro V norms.

The 2.0L EcoBlue will initially be available in 3 different states of tunes - 105bhp, 130bhp and 170bhp - and will be introduced in commercial vehicles first. Bigger states of tune, at 200bhp & 240bhp, are being developed too as we speak.

Even smaller EcoBlue engines, which includes a 1.5L variant, are being planned for powering Ford's passenger cars.

The first beneficiary of this all-new 2.0L engine could be the Endeavour SUV, since it is offered with the 2.2L TDCi option currently.

Official Ford Press Release

Hope the new 2L engine in 170HP tune will solve the problems of the 2.2 L on the Endeavor, which as per the review runs out of breath beyond 120Kmph.

agree: 2.0 EcoBlue diesel engine would be an ideal replacement for 2.2 L on the Endeavour. 170PS, 405Nm torque & 14.5 kmpl

Strange curves. Whatever happened to the 'flat torque curve'?
