Ferrari's 3.9L twin-turbo V8 - International Engine of the Year 2016! Ferrari's 8-cylinder, 3902cc twin-turbocharged V8 engine - the heart of the 488 GTB which produces 660BHP of raw, pulsating power & 760Nm of screeching torque - has been awarded the prestigious International Engine of the Year 2016 award.
This particular twin-turbo V8 screamer also won in the "New Engine", "Performance Engine" and the "3.0-litre to 4.0-litre" categories as well.
This is the first time in 10 years that a car engine propelled by over six cylinders has won this very-prestigious esteem. BMW’s 5.0-litre V10 had won top honours back in 2006. Quote:
“At first glance it would seem the winning powertrain takes this downsizing trend and rips up the rulebook… The 488 heart is proof that performance cars – and all passenger cars – need not fear the downsizing trend,” said the awards committee.
“It was the powertrain’s sophisticated design – loaded with advanced technologies – that saw off a serious challenge from last year’s winner, BMW’s i8 PHEV creation, as well as Porsche’s new straight-six turbo in the 911, to take top honours,” Dean Slavnich, co-chairman of the International Engine of the Year Awards said.
