Mercedes-Benz has quietly started testing an all-new SUV, which will go by the name of GLB Class;







Set to be based on the MFA2 platform, which will be an evolution of the current Modular Front-wheel-drive Architecture (MFA), the GLB will be positioned between the GLA and the GLC SUV's

Should be unveiled by late 2017 as a 2018 model.

Hi,

Autocar seems to call the same car. (By the looks of it) as next generation GLE.

Images from both do show the same mismatched alloys, Projector looking dummy tail lights etc.

Not sure whom to believe.

Our spy photographers' first take was that they were looking at the next generation of the GLE, but a closer examination of the resulting photos told us something else. What you're looking at in the attached photo gallery is the sixth SUV in the future Mercedes-Benz range – or the eight if you're also counting the GLE Coupe and GLC Coupe crossovers.

Comparing its size on the road to models like that blue Skoda Octavia Combi, the GLC in the background and even that Smart fortwo, it becomes apparent that this prototype is a hell of a lot smaller than the M-Class/GLE-Class.

From the initial pictures, I was wondering what is the need for such an SUV when they already have the GLC and the GLE. Looked similar in size and dimensions, but these pictures reveal the actual size of it! Thats a tiny little "SUV" much like the GLA!

Looks like GLB is the more boxier, traditional, SUV'ish version of GLA crossover.

If ever it comes to India, it would be terrible if they came with the wheezy powerplants from the A Class.

OT but I can't imagine the job of the poor sales person in a Mercedes showroom.

He will have to now start reciting the models like a stereotypical South India restaurant waiter and get tired by the end of it.

Indeed, the GLB will be a more off / bad road friendly design. Definitely wont be a hatchback on steroids like the GLA.

Many 4 cyl models (both petrol & diesel) will be coming. Also the smallest diesel will be borrowed from Renault.

The GLB stands out like a sore thumb in an otherwise great looking Mercedes portfolio. Everything, including the headlights, tail-lights, alloy wheel design is unimpressive. Maybe they want to portray this as a people mover?

Looks like Daimler doesn't want to leave any platform unutilized! Looks a lot in competition to the XC40,X2 and the Q3.
The car doens't look that bad, infact it looks like a baby GLS and miles ahead of the GLC. Reminds me of the Yeti.

In 2014, Mercedes Benz embarked on an ambitious project of rebranding of its entire portfolio to have just 4 classes of cars under 6 platforms to offer the customers a comprehensive and multi functional array of vehicles starting from the puny A-class to the Monster G-Class. They wanted to retain their loyal customer base because according to a Stereotype, the Schwaben people are very loyal to their company and cars. And Mercedes is from the heart of this region.

At its core model, the 6 models are what we already know.

A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class, S-Class and the G-Class.

The Geländewagon of the respective core model is named GLx, which is German for SUV or Off Road.

The Compact Limosine, becomes CLx. And the Sport Limosine, becomes SLx.

So the GLB is positioned between the GLA and GLC. And is basically the SUV version of the B Class.


The G-Type is already an SUV and the X-Type is a Pickup.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 patent Images revealed











The Mercedes-AMG GLB 45 should be available in the United States for the 2021 model year.

In Europe, Mercedes likely sell GLB 45 S with 416 hp and 500 Nm generated by the most powerful four-cylinder engine ever fitted to a road car.
