Honda Gienia: City-based hatchback. What's the Jazz then?

ACI has reported of a hatchback based on the Honda City, the Gienia, in the Chinese market.

Unlike the Jazz, which is based on the City platform, but with a whole new different body, the Gienia looks just like the City minus the boot.

The rear styling, especially the lights and spoilers takes a strong cue from the Civic hatchback, but the overall shape looks like a notchback.

Won't be seen in India for sure I guess. It would terribly overlap with the Jazz and the overall length doesn't seem to be under 4 meters.

One word, Sigh What happened to the design engineers in Honda? They are the ones who created some timeless designs for city and civic.

The crease that runs below the headlamp till the end of the bumper, complimented with the big chrome grill. What is the one in the middle of the rear glass? A spoiler or a flap to "take off"? How will be the rear visibility in the IRVM ??

re: Honda Gienia: City-based hatchback. What's the Jazz then?

I don't think it would be coming to India as there is no segment for it. The sub-four meter class is occupied by the Amaze, the premium hatch back class is occupied by the Jazz and the sedan is the City itself. If Honda does bring it to India it would probably be positioned above the City for people looking for a more sporty coupe like design but I don't think such a decision would be taken by Honda for our market.

CHEERS!!!

This seems more of a Civic hatchback than one based on the City.

At least in the US (where City doesn't exist), the Civic hatchback has had a popular past.

Re: Honda Gienia: City-based hatchback. What's the Jazz then?

Honda is taking a leaf out of the book of Germans. That is, build multiple body styles of the same car. See how Audi / BMW / Mercedes make GTs, crossovers, wagons and more off the same car. The incremental cost of a differently-styled variant is small enough to allow the risk. If it clicks, profits can be huge. Also helps to spread out R&D costs across multiple models.

I don't think there's any chance of this ugly car coming to India.

Oh! The 'Notch back' design is too much influenced by Chinese design Engineers.
Typical ques of design from other local Chinese models.

Also, the Form and Function factor is something not at all in sync. IMHO.

As GTO wishes, I too hope, it doesn't come to India

Re: Honda Gienia: City-based hatchback. What's the Jazz then?

With Jazz occupying the premium hatchback segment and Amaze in the compact segment i strongly doubt if this car could see the light of day in Indian markets. The only way i see is if they give additional ground clearance and body claddings and sell it as a hatchback crossover like S Cross, Etios/Polo cross.

This probably be a China-specific model, and may not be applicable for other markets. Honda has it own share of bling variants in China like Jade and a few others.

Re: Honda Gienia: City-based hatchback. What's the Jazz then?

Although its highly unlikely this would see daylight in India, but just comparing it to Jazz may not be entirely correct. Jazz is a sub 4M hatch. This one might be a similar attempt like S-cross(maybe?) that's around 4.3m and has decent takers.

I for one, like the Civic coupe/hatch and a city in similar guise wont be that bad IMO, if the production model is properly designed with 1.5L heart. The engine and more length(eventually space) would be the differentiating factors from JAZZ and if priced somewhere between the 2(Jazz & City) am sure it will have some takers

^^ Oops, looks like someone at Honda forgot to shut the boot completely before the photo-shoot!

Honda Gienia revealed,
Official technical details have not been released as of yet, as the model will only be launched on October 18.

Quote:
However, it is reported that the Gienia will measure 4,517 mm long, 1,705 mm wide, 1,477 mm high, and have a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Compared to its sedan equivalent, the Honda Greiz, it is only 22 mm shorter in overall length.

Under the hood, the Gienia will likely feature the carmaker’s 1.5 litre i-VTEC petrol engine, with 129 hp and 155 Nm of torque available. A five-speed manual gearbox is mated to the engine, with the option of a CVT.

Why do you say that?

The boot shut lines look okay going by the current Honda standards here.

Looks like the love child of the City and the new Civic hatchback.

Yes, that spoiler I am pretty sure is doing nothing for the dynamics or the aesthetics of the vehicle.
