Well here is what is expected from the international circuit on Jimny- coming to India is yet to be revealed.
From Suzuki Australia,
Quote:
We will definitely bring in 100 cars as there is big demand,” Moore said of the Jimny’s limited sales potential in 2017.
Moore said he couldn’t say when the new model will make its debut. But given the brand’s aggressive product rollout over the past 18 months, it could be soon. A 2017 Tokyo motor show debut, perhaps

Next Generation Suzuki Jimny will not sit on the same new generation platform as the Ignis and the Baleno. Will retain its DNA.

Quote:
Nor will the new Jimny get the Ignis’ fairly simple Allgrip Auto all-wheel drive system, instead getting a more advanced Allgrip Pro set-up as befits the Jimny’s role as more of a tough, workhorse vehicle.
NEW GRAND VITARA
Quote:
As for the new Grand Vitara, it will take its styling cues from the highly successful Vitara launched in 2015, possibly offering a seven-seat version at a more affordable price than the likes of the Nissan X-TRAIL.

I guess the styling will be based on the X-Lander, shown in 2013 Tokyo motor show, which was based on the ladder-frame chassis of Jimny. It looks nice and stylish too. 5 years is a reasonable time period for developing such a car from concept to production, IMO.
A new SUV from Suzuki, speculated to be the Jimny.

Jimny 2018 speculated to be showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show 2017 .

Changan Suzuki executives have divulged to the local media that a new Suzuki SUV will be showcased at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2017. Although not confirmed by Changan-Suzuki, the new SUV could be the pre-production concept of the next gen Suzuki Jimny.

The new Jimny is expected to be based on an advanced ladder-frame platform, reports motoring.com. By continuing with the ladder-frame platform, Suzuki will be able to retain the robustness and go-anywhere character of the off-road machine. A confirmation on the platform from the company is yet to be released. Reports also say that the new Jimny will not get a fairly simple Allgrip Auto all-wheel drive system Suzuki employed in the Japanese-spec Ignis. Instead, it will boast of a more advanced Allgrip Pro set-up optimised for hardcore off-roading. This indicates that the next generation Jimny will be a full-blown off-road machine just like the popular Gypsy.
Just hope the New Jimny can live upto the Gypsy Legacy, which is bound to get phased out once Airbags made mandatory for new cars from October 2017. Highly doubt Maruti will put in an effort to plonk in Airbags, Rear Parking Sensors, Speed Warning Systems and Seatbelt Reminders in the Gypsy now that they have even lost their Army & BSF orders to Safari & Xenon.

Suzuki's Gen Next Jimny likely to debut in production form at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2018 and later at the New Delhi Auto EXpo 2018.

Suzuki's new Jimny mini-car off-road car is fully remodeled in 2018 for the first time in 20 years.
Will adopt the ladder and Frame configuration, 4WD and 5MT.

Quote:
The design of the new Jimny adopts a ladder frame structure on which the body is placed based on the same ladder-like frame as the successive models, the power train will be the conventional K6A type 0.66 liter in-line 3 cylinder DOHC engine, but the turbo It is a place to worry about becoming an engine or becoming a mild bridle using ISG.

In terms of output K6A engine produces high output and torque even with the naturally aspirated type, so low and medium speed torque can be covered to the turbo engine by ISG and the electronically controlled four wheel drive by the motor is offload trial course It seems to be suitable for running on bad roads like.

5 MT and CVT are set for the transmission, and the driving method is part time 4 WD. Specification that can equip the automatic brake assist with option setting

Interior is not going to say retro to fluffy, because it is said to be an offroad specification, it seems that black will be the main base color.

Do you guys seriously think Maruti will bring the Jimmy to India? We have been hearing this news once a year for the last 15 years at least. The 2 jokes in the Indian Autimotive industry are the "Almost Certain Launch" of the Suzuki Jimmy and the Royal Enfield V-Twin Bullet

The reason why I feel so is summarised below:

What on earth prevents their IDIOT MANAGEMENT from bringing this lovely vehicle here?

I'll never understand their mentality, for sure!

Same goes for Toyota - it could have brought in the lovely RAV4 here a long time back, to cater to those who want an Urban SUV with secure lockable full metal body and fantastic off roading ability!

re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

The front end of the rendered Jimny looks like someone has applied false-eyelashes on the headlamps. Compared to the old one, the new Jimny looks weird. Except for those eyelashes, the design reminds me of the SWB Pajero.

I hope MSIL is serious this time and hope all these rumours regarding the launch of the next-gen Jimny by 2018 is true !

Yeah, we know all that. We were here. The latest rumor started about July 26, 2016. What makes this one different is that some of the more creditable auto news services reported it and some Suzuki officials outside India have talked about it. And, no, I don't have a crystal ball and neither do you.

The other rumor that used to go around is that Mahindra was going to launch an up scale Jeep. And, of course, nothing ever happened on that one either, right?

Heard prototype is out there somewhere and will be quite expensive like the JEEP

I for one would love to see the new Jimny in the market and sub 8 Lakhs, would make perfect sense to swap it with the Thar and that perfect garage for me. Issue is MUL and their traditional way of thinking and researching indian car buyers. But yes it makes business sense selling volume based models than such lifestyle products, which will have couple of hundreds in sale every year.

ps MUL i am ok with old shape also if it is going to be sub 6 Lakhs lol

re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Maruti makes all their product decisions based on hard-nosed business reasons. It is like their product development department is run only by cost accountants. Their branding managers are very content with the current brand image and don't do anything to deviate from it.

Bringing in 4WD vehicles like Vitara (I don't mean Brezza) or Jimny means a clear deviation from that image. Don't bother mentioning the ancient Gypsy, which they kept around only because of Army orders.

If the rumor is correct then the "hard-nosed" decision is that it is cost effective to build the Jimny in India for international sales. The bi-product, the after thought, of this is an Indian Jimny. That's the rumor. (Watch them launch only a 4x2 Indian Jimny) Jimny has been successful for decades. If the accountants are running the show then the "branding managers" are going to have to get with the program else the tail will be wagging the puppy. Who knows what Maruti is going to do? They persist in creating vehicles whose main competition is their own pre-existing models, for example. And, they have had their share of market failures. They make good quality low cost vehicles and back them up with good parts and service. But their marketing strategy is more than a little hinky IMHO. Other companies, Renault for one, sell AWD or 4x4 in India. The noses of their accountants are no less hard, based on a recent study conducted by geologists using the scratch test. You picks your company and picks your nose.

re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Suzuki confirms the New JIMNY to remain a hardcore ladder-frame 4×4.

Expect familiar ladder frame construction, off-road suspension and reduction gearing (low range) to remain part of the next iteration, which will also sport more safety equipment, cool retro styling language and potentially a downsized BoosterJet turbo engine( engine not confirmed though)

Quote:
the next-generation Jimny/Sierra design is at an advanced stage, and retains the signature angular and tough boxy styling language. Suzuki is making a concerted effort to apply classic, retro design to many core models, including the current Vitara and new Ignis.
Quote:
While the timing is a little vague, expect to see a new Jimny as soon as 2018, though it may well be a year after that. Suzuki’s lead times aren’t always the fastest. A 2017 Tokyo motor show world debut, perhaps

Seems like the car has grown in length to a +4m size.

Round head lamps, vertical grill, more vertical front wind shield, squared A-pillar-to-roof joints, longer bonnet and body... A mini Hummer, anyone?
