Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

On a slight tangent, I recognise the road it's being tested on. It's in the south of Spain if I'm correct, I had a first year field trip where I was working along that road circa 2012. At the time there was a prototype of the current gen 911 blasting up and down all day collecting data. I remember having a chat with the test driver about how his seat was the only thing inside other than loads of telemetry boxes and laptops etc.

I like this new Jimny, would love to see it on sale in India. But is it me or does it sound a bit gruff?

This is near Granada in and around Sierra Nevada mountains. It's pretty popular for testing. Many tire manufacturers go there as well for the same.

Suzuki bets big on Jimny for the European markets, targets 20% sales growth after launch of retro Jimny.

Quote:
Launch of the Jimny micro-SUV, which will be revealed at the Tokyo motor show this month. Suzuki said the firm would never offer a model longer than the S-Cross. The firm is also investigating electric cars and will begin to offer them in the future, Suzuki confirmed.

Suzuki believes its positioning as a maker of small, fun and innovative models, chiefly SUVs, can help it boost sales by 20% in Europe and continue its impressive growth.

The firm has had hits with the Ignis and Vitara in particular.

Suzuki sold 245,000 cars in Europe last year for a 1.2% market share and, in its current financial year, sales are 20% up, year on year. Have targeted 300,000 sales for a 1.5% market share.

That means a 7-seater Vitara is not in the offing in the international markets in the near future. Vitara is already 4170mm in length; and to make it a proper 7-seater, Suzuki has to extend it to a minimum 4500mm, way beyond S-Cross's 4300mm.

That almost means that India may get the 7-seater version of the Brezza as the expected 7-seater SUV.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Suzuki updates the current Jimny, gets new instrument panel and display,

Quote:
Despite maintaining the same on the outside, the interior of the light touches, with WINS model wheel more like that of other brand models (S-Cross and Vitara), instrument panel with new digital display (but still no on-board computer) and Multimedia Center with 7 "and Smartphone 4Sport version mirroring.
Quote:
Mechanically, the Jimny maintains the same configuration with chassis construction-body, 1.3 petrol engine, 85 HP and torque, 11.2 kgfm with valve (single) variable and 5-speed manual 4 × 4 drive and reduced option, one of the strongest features of the Jimny

I don't understand this. If a new Jimny is being launched, why update the current Jimny?

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Upgraded Jimny for BRAZIL- test drive video,

Quote:
The Jimny 2018 has a 4 × 4 drive system. Traction switching is done with the push of a button. According to Suzuki, there are 15 road combinations: 2WD for urban use with rear-wheel drive, 4WD with four-wheel drive and 4WD-L that doubles the torque and allows you to tackle various off-road obstacles with reduced 4 × 4 traction
Quote:
From the entry version, the Suzuki Jimny comes equipped with air conditioning, power steering, power windows, AM / FM radio, CD player with MP3, WMA, USB and Bluetooth. In addition to it, Jimny has three other versions, all made in Brazil: Jimny 4All, Jimny 4Sport and Jimny 4Work Off Road.
Even after 20 years of its existence, see the demand for this lilltle SUV in Europe,

I guess it is because the new one will be a much bigger, feature-rich and costlier car than the current one, and in that case, they may retain the old one -atleast for some more time till the new one stabilises.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Tokyo Motor show 2017 ended few days back, but no news about new generation Jimny (supposed to be launched at the show). Any idea when it is likely to be released in India? 2018 or later?

Thanks

You would think that to make the Jimny in India, there would be construction people, engineers, who would be building the infrastructure of the plant(s). There would be politicians. There would be utilities people involved.

But nobody from those quarters has come forward, or backward, and stated that they are working on readying Jimny production facilities.

I doubt that Maruti could keep a lid on such news if it were in fact the case.
On the other hand, some usually trustworthy media have said that Jimny will be built in India....????

It should, but that would be an undesirable combination nai? As the AMT with its clutch (I would call this hard coupling as compared to say a torque converter unit) would have a tough time figuring out what do you want when you go offroad.

Imagine, you want to climb a slope, the car is struggling to climb, the next thing the AMT will do to prevent it from stalling would be disengage the clutch, phat, you roll back, Lots of such scenarios I can think of where in an AMT would not suit an offroad vehicle.

According to me, this they will place it as something which a hatchback customer can buy and feel on top of the world, like literally, manage the potholed city roads, fly by flooded streets and basically, do a little bit of SUV'ish stuff without burning a hole in their pocket.

Re: New Suzuki Jimny in 2018

Suzuki is speculated to bring more models every year from 2018 on wards. Two models that generate interest, apart from the X- Bee, will be.

1. Suzuki Jimny - launch in fall of 2018

New Suzuki Jimny in 2018-.jpg

Quote:
it was thought that the concept model will be announced at the Tokyo Motor Show this time, and the next type Jimny. Unfortunately it did not appear, but development is proceeding smoothly.
Quote:
the ladder frame excellent in reliability on rough roads and mountain roads which has been outstanding like the previous one, the part time type 4WD is inherited.

Quote:
The installed engine is from the current model K6 type turbo. It is expected to change to the same R06 direct injection turbo as the latest Suzuki light model such as Wagon R.

2. Suzuki Sierra ( GYPSY) - 2019

Quote:
This engine is equipped with the same 1.2 L 4 as the Swift etc., there is a possibility that a more powerful 1 L direct 3 turbo may be prepared.

In case of current Jimny, the visual difference between Jimny and Sierra is that Sierra is wider, but only because of the flared wheel arches. The Jimny is typical Japanese Kei car, while Sierra gets more visual appeal.

The current spy shots reveal that it has big wheel arches, so it may be the Sierra. Then the narrower (1475mm wide Kei model?) Jimny will be a bit awkward to look at, IMO.
