All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

Ford unveils the new Fiesta in Cologne- Germany. Expect some markets to have it in the first half of 2017

Quote:
So far, Ford will only confirm that the new Fiesta will be available in four versions in Europe. The Vignale will be the luxury trim; the ST-Line will be sporty; Titanium will go for style; and Active will take some utilitarian cues from crossovers
Quote:
Inside, the new model shows major improvements. The current Fiesta has a nice enough cabin, but the latest version has better styling and high-end materials. The eight-inch infotainment screen seems to float in front of the center stack. The system runs on Ford’s Sync 3 tech. According to Ford, Fiesta buyers will be able to choose more personalization options than ever before, including a high-end B&O Play stereo.

Looks like a bad Chinese mashup of Ford Focus and B Max.The front is sad and the rear is like an MPV.

Re: Spied: All-new 2017 Ford Fiesta for the first time

Yeeeesh!!! Looks like Ford took inspiration from Korea to produce something that would be a mass market hit in China!!!
I am thoroughly disappointed with the looks and only hope this iteration is mechanically much more capable than the much loved current gen Fiesta.

PS: But the looks, why oh why Ford did you ruin the character!!!??? And, a crossover version as well? C'mon, you must be kidding!!!

Re: Spied: All-new 2017 Ford Fiesta for the first time

I still cannot make peace with that grille which makes the car looks a bit dispirited. Everything else except for that floating screen which is fast becoming a Ford standard is okay.

1) The 2017 Fiesta has moved upmarket and has grown dimension wise. The Titanium is the new base model. The Ka+ (Heavily revised Figo) has already occupied that slot in the European markets.

2) Its loaded too - better interior materials, a panoramic sunroof, a SYNC 3 infotainment system, a big 8" floating screen like in the face-lifted EcoSport, a B&O sound system, and safety systems like forward collision warning and adaptive cruise control.

3) Apparently all that is not at the cost of something very important to the Fiesta - Fun to drive. Ford' chief program engineer Glen Goold says the new car, which is built on a fine-tuned version of the excellent old global B-car platform that underpins the current car, is more responsive, smoother, has more grip and is 'cleaner to drive' than the outgoing model. It also offers rear disc brakes, which Goold says can bring the car to a stop within a meter of a Porsche 997. He concludes, saying: “Without question, this is the most fun to drive small car in the world.”

Hopefully he’s right, and Ford hasn’t messed up what is already a solid little driver’s car.

4) The 1.0-liter EcoBoost remains largely unchanged, but it, along with a new “high powered diesel” engine, gets mated to a set of revised 5 and 6 speed transmissions.

Now, lets meet the variants.

Titanium - The new base model.

Vignale - The luxury model.

Active - The jacked up crossover.

ST-Line - The range topper - A precursor to ST which will be much more hardcore.

And here is that opulent presentation for which Ford invited its 2500 dealers to Cologne, Germany.

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

I'm going against the tide here, but I find the new car to be very smart looking. Hope it retains the nice steering & sharp handling of the outgoing Fiesta. Ford is saying it is the most fun-to-drive small car.

With the way that the Figo twins have bombed (and the last Fiesta too), I don't think Ford India will get the green light to bring this car here. I hope they do though. There is a big market for premium hatchbacks and if Ford can get the price + engines + equipment right, they could taste success.

Everything looks good. Now a Saloon version of it will be made specially for our market. Looks like a good comeback for Ford to bring the Fiesta back in action.

Re: Spied: All-new 2017 Ford Fiesta for the first time

The styling is a departure from what we'd expect for the Fiesta but looks good. The rear resembles the Fusion.

Also, the interior spec list seems pretty spectacular; if they bring the same to India (in the sedan version), will be pretty much segment first.

Each variant has a different styling cue; at least the front bumper from what the pictures suggest. Wonder how many other cars have such a thing.

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

Wow! This looks so much better. I still dont like the grill, but it is more bearable than the old one. How I wish they launch this in India as a premium hatch. I would happily trade in my Figo for it.

The Active variant does look nice, pseudo-crossover styling and all.

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

I like the car's stance; it looks purposeful - like a road-going rally car and to that end, seems to have a similar feel as the excellent and successful Peugeot 206. The hot ST version will look even more delectable, I'm sure.

Fords have matured incredibly well over the past decade, in my mind, represent a similar niche today as Mazda: great build, great handling, great design and value-for-money.

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

The first thing to know about the 2017 Ford Fiesta is that the automaker dubs it as the eighth generation, not seventh.

Quote:
The reason for that is not surprising: the facelifted sixth-generation Fiesta is flaunted by FoMoCo’s marketing department as being a generation in its own right
All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled-gettingtoknowthe2017fordfiestadetailsandspecifications113324_1.jpg
Ford Motor Company intends to push the well-equipped Trend as the lowest trim level available for the Fiesta. Higher up, we have the Titanium, ST-Line, Active, and Vignale. The biggest surprise of this five-trim lineup is the Fiesta Active (pictured), which employs crossover-like styling
Quote:
With the European market launched planned for next summer, the new Fiesta will be available with 3- and 5-door body styles. Later on, Fiesta will gain an ST variant for those in the market for a hot hatchback with world-class handling dynamics. Until then, however, three humdrum engines will have to suffice. The first of the lot is a naturally aspirated petrol displacing 1.1 liters, available with either 70 PS or 85 PS. Then there’s the 1.0-liter EcoBoost, which will be offered in 100 PS, 125 PS, and 140 PS forms. Be that as it may, only the 100 PS variant of the 1.0-liter turbo will be available with an auto
Quote:
Rear disc brakes are reserved only for Fiesta models with engines more powerful than 100 PS. For those interested in getting the most miles per gallon from the 2017 Ford Fiesta, there are two 1.5-liter TDCi diesel on the menu, with 85 PS or 120 PS. Size-wise, the Fiesta measures 4,040 mm (159 inches) in length, 1,734 mm (68.2 inches) in width without the side mirrors, 1,483 mm (58.3 inches) in terms of height, and sports a wheelbase of 2,493 mm (98.1 inches). Thus, it’s longer (71 mm), wider (12 mm), and roomier (16 mm more rear legroom) than the earlier generation Fiesta
Quote:
On the technological front, SYNC infotainment is available in three flavors: 4.2-, 6.5-, and 8.0-inch units. The instrument cluster now features a digital color screen flanked by analog gauges. Phone mirroring functions such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available, as is a B&O Play sound system with 10 speakers and a total output of 675 bangin’ watts.

Last but not least, safety. For 2017, the Fiesta can be equipped with two cameras, three radar sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to monitor what is going on around the car. Also, the all-new Fiesta can “see” up front at up to 130 meters. Pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, automatic perpendicular parking, auto braking, auto high beam headlights, rear cross traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition are also featured on the options list
First look video,

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

Here is Mat Watson with the all new Fiesta!

That panoramic sunroof opens huge! And Mat says it also gets torque vectoring. The inside front wheels are braked slightly to make the turn in faster. Hope Ford India is serious about this Fiesta and bring the long awaited hatch version. I think it has more chance of success than a sedan version which will surely debut in the US.

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

Add me in the disappointed with the looks list, not quite happy with the new fiesta's front, seems too feminine or korean, especially the titanium version. Since this was more of an evolution in design rather than something revolutionary,Im kind of ok with the rear and side profile.
One more downer with the exteriors seem to be the DRL in the headlamps, they seem to be too dim , atleast in the pics and video.
As with any new fresh design, the final verdict depends on how it looks in the flesh, hopefully we get to see it sooner than later.

Im not too worried about the build quality and ride and handling deteriorating, Ford will maintain the Fiesta heritage for sure.

Coming to the Interiors, seems to be similar to the new Ecosport unveiled recently, Was expecting the Endeavor's like instrument cluster but the current overall interior theme looks great ,so no issues here.

There were three issues with previous Fiesta sedan sold here besides the initial pricing disaster.
The issue with Poor interior quality/looks has been overcome in this version.Going by the current trend of Fords in india, we shouldn't worry too much of cheap interiors.

Second was with its smaller overall exteriors looks, it looks smaller, narrower than the current Verna/city/Ciaz, This may not matter in the US or Europe but here in India, it matters a lot.

Third Issues was with the Rear back seat space, both legroom and seat width. It seems ford has increased the interior dimensions slightly, hopefully its on par with other premium hatchbacks and when the sedan is launched, ford increases the legroom to match the Ciaz/City.

Will be waiting with keen interest to see when and in what form the fiesta launches here.

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

Ford Fiesta is likely to skip the US market, instead the company will concentrate on the baby SUV EcoSport for US.

A mid 2017 launch is scheduled for Europe.

Re: All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled

More details of the Ford Fiesta Sporty ST variant emerge! Production starts at the beginning of the end of 2017, with a 2018 launch and will be available in both three- and five-door variants at launch.

All-new 2018 Ford Fiesta unveiled-fordfiestast2017011600x900.jpg
Quote:
The Fiesta ST, meanwhile, is expected to get a more powerful version of the already-available1.6-liter turbocharged unit. Power will increase from 197 horsepower (146 kilowatts) to north of 200 horsepower (149 kilowatts), and safe 0-60 mph (0-96 kmh) estimate would be around 6.5 seconds. Of course, we anticipate Ford will keep the six-speed manual as standard, but could offer the option of a sporty version of the six-speed dual-clutch to appeal to a wider range of buyers
